I am soooooo stupid!!! and lazy!!!
I bought an Artic silver Epoxy long time ago(by mistake). I applied Artic silver on all of my CPUs. Long time ago, I killed a P3 800EB chip when I tried to removed the HSF from that P3 cartridge (slot1). It took a big bite out of CPU core. So the CPU was brutally murdered and I cried. And just a week ago I killed my poor P3 700E slot1. Took another big bite out of the core. Artic silver EPOXY was applied on both of those chips!! I made same mistake twice!! Even though I knew EPOXY is a bad bad bad I deal to apply on the cpu unless I know Im going to use that CPU with a Good HSF permanently. I was so lazy to buy the Artic silver COMPOUND and now I pay the price for taking big bites out of my CPUs.
I have no money at the moment so I had to buy a P3 600E!!!! and it is a cB0. I wanted to see how far I can OC this so I bumped it. The best I could get with stability in both office apps and 3D games is at 912mhz @ 152mhz fsb @ Vcore: 1.70 & VIO: 3.60 @ CAS222 (I never use CAS333 setting cauze it gives out **** performance hahaha) . Oh... I wanted to get more out of it but im afraid it's my mobo that is maxed out on the AGP northbridge department.. The mobos I been using are: Abit BE6-2 Rev1 and Rev 1.2
Tips: To those people who are new at overclocking, Don't use Artic Silver EPOXY for the CPU and HSF. Use the Artic Silver COMPOUND instead. Compound itself won't murder your chips but an EPOXY can especially if you apply more on it.
What's bad is that I knew that using an EPOXY version is a bad ideal for the CPU and made that same mistake twice even though I knew it. :(
Mr.B !! Hi~~
I was hoping maybe I could get this 600E as high as yours @ 952mhz but I don't think that's gonna happen. hahaha. at least I got it pretty close hehe.. What mobo are u using on your 600E system? Hope u'll read this message. :p
Yes...
That's a sure fire way to toss good chips :).
Nail-gunning them to the heatsink is the other way.

Hi Pinky. I missed ya. I was gone for sometime.. now Im back!
Thanks for the reply. :p :)
Oh one thing I wanna ask.. I don't know anything about the Windows XP. I see you're using one. How is it? Is it good playing games too? compatibility issue or any? I'll wait for you reply..
It's tough to say. I tried installing Max Payne (which worked fine with windows 2000) last night on a build/XP, and it wouldn't run (installed fine though).
On my current workstation I don't have a 3d card, I RMA'ed my gf3 and will be borrow an Ultra next week (hopefully)... until then, it doesn't even install on the machine.
I really like the OS, and for what I do, it seems to be great. If I can't play certain games, no big loss. You can still dual boot with windows 98 if need be (unsre if it's a feature on the home edition of XP though :)).

Hope u'll read this message. :p I was able to overcome a problem getting a celey to 566 by using an ATI Expert98. Read somewhere that side band adressing was a problem on BX boards and that ATI is good running AGP overclocked with SBA on. If your driver permits try turning side band adressing off. My board was an Abit BE6. 566 can now run at 850.
600E @ 954, 159FSB 1.95v, Asus P3C200 motherboard. Yeah, you're mighty close....
Keep running it for a while where you are, and try to bump the FSB now and again. It might pick up a few more MHz over time...=)
I've had the 600E on an Abit BE6 II (v1.0) lately. I've gotten it to run a bit faster, but haven't had the rig in full configuration to test for full stability yet. The Abit only lets me have 1.90v (less than the Asus), yet I'm getting a higher overclock (how much, I don't know for sure yet.... 162FSB (972MHz) looks promising.
I've got a P/// 850E coming next week. I got it thru e-BAY, listed as "For Parts". Supposedly, it boots into the BIOS, then hangs.
I've always thought, and heard, and read, that a CPU is a go/no go item. Either it works, or it doesn't. This leads me to think this particular chip is ok, and the seller has something set up wrong in the BIOS, or some other kind of hardware conflict somewhere.
I certainly hope so...it's a $72.00 roll of the dice...
If it's good, I think 1GHz is pretty much a lock for this chip. It only needs 118FSB to get there. That's not too far at all.
Just hope I'm right. If so, I got another steal of the century on e-BAY. I got the 600E this way... the guy listed it one night while "tired" (drunk, I think...LOL), and listed it as a 600E CELERON !!! And then only priced it at $75.00, "Buy It Now".
hehehe How could I say no to that??? LOL

Mr. B, I think I was looking at that P3 850 on ebay when I was looking for a P3. Please post whether it works or not. I did get a few steals off ebay, A brand new peltier heatsink combo, same as on computernerds.com for $3. They guy didn't know what it was but he did post a pic, so I saw the peltier and bid away. It was listed as pentium 2 cooler. Really nice slot 1 heatsink with U shape clips on each end. Fits on slocket like a dream, got my celerom 433 to post 650 but still unstable. Steal #2 I found a guy that had a dutch auction for P3 933 for $115 and $4.90 shipping, I grabbed one of those, can't wait to get it.

dude where ya been??????
Me??? Writing reviews for the front page...lol
I just got home from a meeting, and saw the August "winners" had been chosen. OMG!!
Thanks so much, Joe, Ed, and Skip!! When I wrote the first Glaciator article, I was hoping I might win, but when I wrote the 2nd one here, I really didn't think about it. I was more interested in the fact that it was something new, and it worked really well.
I also just got a new (to me) BE6 II, and have been busy mixing/matching components trying to find my best combo. Which chip works best with which board, with what vid card, what fan arrangement, with....lol I've been playing "Benchmarks "R" Us" for the last few days... I'm about ready to do a major overhaul of the main rig, and I'm about due for a fresh install of Windows anyways..LOL
I've also been kind of taking it easy lately, as I pulled some muscles in my back at work a week and a half ago. Nothing big (had an MRI, showed no major problems, just a muscular thing), and I'm fine now. I've also been trying to spend a bit more time with the Mrs.
No, I'm around and about, William. I'm just being "stealthy"....
Mr B
Hey man dont feel to bad, I crushed my p3 lapping it, yeah, didnt even get a chance to go out in a ball of overclocking flame... died under the sandpaper :(
