im almost worried that my fsp530 may be a pushed a tad to hard,i actually heard the fans kick on high the other day and thats unusual for this psu.
im adding in 2xseagate scsi 15k drives and a scsi raid card also adding 2x80mm fans and a 120mm fan.

this is on top of an already loaded rig and oced power hungry prescott.

luckily my lian-li will do redundant psu's if needed but i want to look into this before i go adding more equipment.

i know ive seen them before but what i need is a guide telling me what parts uses how much power?

ok ill list the full setup:
p4 3.0prescott@ 3.5ghz 1.325vcore
p4 875 chipset mobo
1 gig of ram
x800pro@ 550/1100
ati tv tuner pci card
sb live card
scsi raid pci card
2x 15k scsi drives
2x WD raptors
1x seagate 60gb ata 7200
1 xWd 5400 6gb
1x cd burner
1x dvd rom
1x floppy
7x80mm fans
1x90mm fan
2x120mm
2x cold cathodes
4x usb devices

my psu rails are adjusted to:
3.3v=3.42v
5v=5.4v
12v=12.60v

If the rails aren't sagging, then you're still fine.

Most 7200rpm and below hard-drives are around 15 watts.

Those SCSI disks would probably be 25watts or so.

Your presscott is around 140watts I'd geuss.

Video card around 70

Fans vary, a good median figure would be 4watts I'd geuss.

ram doesn't use very much. Cd-roms are around 20-25last I chekced, more for burners.

You have a taxing system, but you also have a good PSU. If you wanted to, you could just add in a generic 300watter for the fans. Most people have one of those laying around.

it could be very well u have hit the wall cause most of the ps supplies do their rating at like 25c which is not realistic. i had a wattage guide b4 i formatted my rig(a mole)
ill look for it and post it here guy

Not sure I'd worry about the Fortron just yet... I'd give it a try with the extra gear and see how it holds up under load with a multimeter. These 530's are really well built. My own seems to have ramped up the fans a bit since I started pushing the limits of my system again, but I believe this is as much due to heat buildup in the case as the increased draw on my 5v line. My best multimeter tells me all is well :)

here is the calculator my friend. yes the fotron is good but after i read up on how power supplies are rated it could be u hit the wall..http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/

nice calculator flapper ty :D
i couldnt even get all my parts in it so i kinda fudged parts but come out to about 550wt psu needed.
granted i feel this fsp530 will do it, i just dont want my ocability to lag due to it tho.

these fsp's are freaken bricks! lol

ive bumped my oc up a little to 3654mhz @1.42vcore and was running prim a bit to see how my rails fair. didnt move to much, but then again i dont have everything loaded in yet either like those scsi drives.

i feel ill be ok,for now.much more and its redundant fsp530's :D

is there a psu atx plug on/off sence plug i can buy? <~~~i just made up that name but what i mean is if i run dual psu's is there an adaptor or something that can sense the primary psu's actions?

thats a heck of alot of components death.. the fortron is a good supply but, once u run it over it rated temperature/load performance drops quickly.so a psu rated at 530 at 25c could be significabtly less at 40c/45c

isnt really getting hot tho.
i havent noticed the fans kicking on high yet tonight.
my case is extreamly well ventilated also.

any ideas on the plug i mentioned above? i dont mind at all buying a second fsp.

but i do have a fear of killing this one once i add these new parts:2xseagate scsi 15k drives and a scsi raid card also adding 2x80mm fans and a 120mm fan

I agree. Might not be a terrible Idea to put some bigger fans in it.

Is the air coming out of it hot. Not warm, but hot?

When I ran my 80watt pelt plus my system off of mine the air got much warmer than without the pelt. The good thing about your load, is it's spread over the 5V and the 12V lines.

The hard-drives are run off the 5V line, while the mobo, cpu, and fans are off the 12V.

if i understand u correctly u just want a 2nd power supply (redundant) with a power supply failure sensing switch to switch power on if the 2nd fails??

the air is warm, about same as my rear exhaust fans.
whats great is the case was modded for me and has 2x120mm blow holes on the top.
i only have 1x120mm atm but its blowing in and down.i know thats the incorrect way usually but in this case i need the posative air pressure.
anyhow it blows cool air str8 into the psu intake fan.

these fsp530's will kick the fans on high if it gets hot.mine did a few nights ago while my room was hot and playing hours of games. freaked me out as i never heard it do it before.kinda what started all this thinking ahead now.

heres my plan:
ill add the new parts in,that will be 2 weeks id guess.ill test it out and prime a while and see how things look. heat output and lines drooping.
in the meentime im gonna look for a way to run a redundant psu with it.
i figure in the over all lifetime of my rig i will need more upgradabilty room and it will further help my psu live long and healthy, and not degrade any ocability.

if i understand u correctly u just want a 2nd power supply (redundant) with a power supply failure sensing switch to switch power on if the 2nd fails??kinda but i want both to run simultaniously and find a way the second psu will switch off/ with the primary.
so mabey dually but i dont want it spliced and all that, ill just run fans and accesories off the second psu.

Fortron does rate at 25 degrees, and specifies the 530w drops to 455w at 50 degrees, however many times it has been shown that Fortron is very conservative indeed in their ratings. That said, I'm doubtful the system in question is approaching that 455w limit just yet. No matter how the 530w is rated, I have rarely seen a PSU more solidly built - the heatsinks are absolutely huge, and the circuit design seems ready for anything. However, should it turn out the PSU is starting to hit its limits there's always the 550w monster to go to ;)

I thought my old CWT 420w, which also has larger than average heatsinks, was heavy until the 530w showed up ;)

OMG that's so much power consumption!! If anyone could kill a fsp 530, it'd be you...
