Well OK I guess I am officially an overclocker now My 1GHz Athlon is running at 1.13 right now, but I am not sure how to increase the multiplier on the bios.

Right now I am just overclocking the FSB I think. Here are the specs from WCPUID:

Internal Clock: 1132.43MHz
System Clock 150.99MHz
System Bus: 301.98
Mulitiplier: 7.5

The temps are a bit high(54-55 degrees celcius). I am running PC100 SDRAM Memory and it is stable(so far) at 150 which seems odd since it is generic memory.

As for the temps I have an intake fan in front, an exhaust fan on back, a PCI slot fan for my video card and a Volcano 5 heatsink/fan. Any ideas on how to cool it down more?

I connected the L1 bridge on the CPU, but I can't change the multiplier in the bios. Any ideas on how to do this on an ASUS A7A266?

Am I correct in assuming that it is better to overclock the CPU rather than overclocking the FSB?

Thanks for any help:)

Welcome to our awsome forums. Those temps are on the high side and you need to get those under control before you overclock. I would invest in a new heatsink very soon. Did you use Artic Silver-2 when you installed the heatsink? Did you connect the L1 bridges correctly? All 4 bridges need to be connected on the L1. Raising the FSB is the preferred way to overclock. Are you sure you have PC-100 ram? 150mhz FSB from PC-100 is unheard of, you probaly have PC-133.

Here is all the info from the ram package:

Kingston Value Ram
KVR100X64C3/256
256MB DIMM 32MX64
100MHz SDRAM CL3 Gold

So yes it is PC100, I guess I just got a good batch or something. I got it from Dell about a month back when they had it for $20 shipped:)

I just installed the Volcano 5 on the CPU with whatever stuff was on it under the plastic that you take off. I will go get some Artic Silver from the local dealer ASAP.

The local dealer also recommended getting a Dragon Orb fan, but I have read orb fans aren't all that great. Any opinions?

Earlier there was a post here that gave a link to directions on how to "hack" my ASUS A7A266 to be able to use the multiplier, but now that post is gone:(

Could someone please repost that link since I didn't save it, Thanks:)

I can't get any of the download sites to work:( I am trying to get the Windows Live Update version as it seems easier.

This is probably the fault of Download Accelerator Plus. I have the same problem downloading from ZDNet also.

If someone has time could you please download it and email the file to me? Thanks:)

What is it you are trying to download?

I am trying to get the 1004 Bios update so I can change the multiplier settings.

For some reason DAP has problems downloading from certain sites and I don't know why.

I would like Asus' LiveUpdate Windows version since it seems easier to do and I have never done this before.
