Hi, first off heres my specs:

Amd Athlon BartonXp 3000 (Overclocked to 2.31Ghz)
2x512 Elixir PC3200 400 DDR (Thats what come in my pc)
160Gb Samsung
ATI Radeon 9600SE ~ Soon to be X800 XT Platinum Edition (When it actually arrives)
Windows XP Home
Creative Labs Soundblaster Live
Artic Cooling Copper Silent 2

Well I thought of adding another Gb of ram to my setup to have a total of 2gb PC3200 DDR 400 RAM, but wondered what 1gb I should get? Its gotta be 1 single stick of 1024 as I only have 1 vacant slot. This is what I looked at on Ebuyer, Have a look and tell me what you think would be best:

OCZ Performance 1024MB DDR400 PC3200 CL 3-3-3-8 (LIFETIME WARRANTY) ~ http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=61696 ~ £144.82

Corsair (VS1GB400C3) 1024MB, DDR400 / PC3200, non-ECC, 184 DIMM, unbuffered, CL3, 64Mx8 DRAMs, Lifetime Warranty
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=66405 ~ £136.29.

There was some Kingston 1gb but it was slightly more expensive and I wasnt sure if it was 1 single stick. Well you dont have to go on the 2 I listed, just tell us what you think I should do. Thanks alot, Pac2003

I know alot of mobo's that have 3 slots will only take 2 sticks of memory at one time. Are you sure you can fill all 3 slots?

IMO i would just get another 512mb stick of memory if your mobo will take it. A single stick of 1gb has a super high CL. Don't forget the more sticks of memory you have the worse your OC will be. Your ram can only run as fast as the slowest stick.

Oh right I didnt know that. I dont know if I could fill all 3 slots then. Is there anyway of checking?

I'm quite new to all this anyway, what does super high CL mean?

Oh right so even if I bought a 1gb stick it would only run as fast at my 512mb sticks?

Looking at my booklet my motherboard is ~ AS Rock K7S8X/K7S8XE

Does that help at all?

Thanks

Just looked at my motherboard manual and thought i'd add this so anyone who has an idea about pcs (unlike me) can use this info wisely :p.

Memory: 3 DDR DIMM slots: DDR1, DDR2, and DDR 3
PC1600 (DDR200) / PC2100 (DDR266)
For 3 DDR DIMM slots, Max. 3GB;
PC2700 (DDR333) for 2 DDR DIMM slots, Max. 2GB;
PC3200 (DDR400) for 1 DDR DIMM slot, Max. 1GB

That means nothing to me... What does it mean to you?

Thanks

So that means I can't add a 1gb stick of PC3200 DDR 400?

Lol i'm a complete noob with pcs :p

You are correct.

What do you want 2gigs of ram for? Even Doom3 runs good with 1gb of ram. It's a waste of money IMO. If you turn down the fsb to 166 you could run 2 gigs if you really need it.

Hmm i'm not to sure why I wanted to add another 1GB. Got abit of spare cash and just thought it would help games like Doom 3 and Farcry run better and would help my new X800 XT PE run abit faster. So it aint really worth it ya rekon... Maybe i'll just leave it for now then and see hoe this new card runs with my setup (if the card ever comes). Thanks for the help peeps ;)

If you like gaming, 2GB of ram is not going to be noticeable with such high latency, If I were you I would forsake that mobo you got there and buy a DFI ultra Infinity, NF-7 or Asus Deluxe, these support 400FSB and overclock better than your current mobo. This will cost you at least $100, and still have change to buy another 512 stick if you desire.......
