I have 4x 256mb on my board now, but would like 4x 512mb SDRAM pc133..

Are they as reliable and stable as the 'old' dimms, or is it better to wait a bit longer?
Abd what about these 1gb things?

Just wondering,

Chris

make sure your motherboard even supports the 512 sticks... not many support the 1024 sticks(only the newer ones).

i havent heard of anything wrong with the larger sticks either. so they should be reliable.. if you are worried about reliability, buy Micron or Another major high quality brand

Not only do I agree with the post before me, but it will do absolutely no good at all to get a 512 mb stick of ram if you are not running Windows 2000 or newer. Windows 98 doesn't even know how to make use of anymore ram than 384 mb of it. I have heard of peaple losing data and gettine errors when trying to use more than 384 mb of memory with 98.

First of all, my motherboard supports 1024mb memoryDIMMs. It has 4 slots and according to the manual it can take 4gb of RAM, so that's no problem.

Secondly, of coures I am running W2K. Apart from the memory issue, I also run a dual cpu setup, so that's no problem either.

As for your Win 98 remark, I have my os on a swappable harddisk, and made me another one with win 98 in the exact same hardware setup. (Dual cpu 1 gihz, 1024mb RAM) and it simply runs smoothly, fast and above all stable. Now maybe win 98 doesn't use more than 384 RAm, and only a single cpu but apparently it works ok with more installed. First I tried to have it working by limiting the max amount of RAm to win, but that made the system highly unstable. This is just a 'normal'install, no tweaks whatsoever. I only use win98 if I feel like playing games, so it mostly runs tombraider, quake and other games, but so far I haven't had a single crah, freeze or error.

 According to my mconfig, it says win '98 can access up to 999 MB of mem. Have you tried with more than 384? ...I'm thinking of getting the 512 stick to go with my 384. That's on a kt7a-raid. Just thought it might help with cd recording, etc..

i am very sure 9x only can use 512 and after that you will have system crashes as windows does not know how to adress that much phisical memory.

Why use ME if you can use 2K?

Oooh, read more careful please, I thought I clearly stated i used Win 98, NEVER Me.... :-)
But thanks for the tips on the games that work in W2K. I never tried because i simply assumed they wouldn't work, so thanks, that'll save ma a lot of disk-swapping :-)
