Im pretty new to overcloking and cooling and putting together systems...but last year i put together an amd 1200mhz comp. I got taisol heatsink with a kind of weak fan (for got the name..but its a 24cfm fan) and my cpu use to keep getting to 57C+. It overheated a few weeks ago at 59C and it wouldnt go on for 20 minutes and i was worried so i turned it down from 1200 to 1100. and itll still get to about 53. then i bought a hard drive exhaust fan and video care exhaust fan(theyre called the twin turbo and super duper slot fan) Well i put it back to 1200 but it still gets to 54C soemtimes. I was wondering if there is anyway to just buy a new fan, take off my old one and attach it to my current heatsink for my cpu becuz i im worried if i try taking the heatsink/fan off i might damage my cpu. And if i were able to just swicth fans would i be able to leave my system alone(cpu in place and everything) thanks

what heat transfer compound are you using?
are you using the standard chewing gum pad that comes on the heatsink? If you are scrap it and buy some Artic Silver or even just some white goop compound as those pads are crap for heat transfer.

Welcome Lynch03!

What are the particulars of your system and what program are you getting your temp reports from.
My suggestion is to get MBM5 and 'Shutdown Now' and set the temps to shut the system down in the event the temp gets too high. You may need to fix the OS afterward but you will still have a system to do it with.
