I am making a bong water cooled system for my tbird chip and one thing that is very differant from a normal watercooled system is the strengh needed of the pump. in a normal watercooling system it dosn;t matter how high you pump the water as it all balances out when the water goes back down to the pump and only the length of the tubing ends up counting. in a bong system the length of the tubing slows down waterflow but also a lot of energy is lost because it must bring the water to the top of your tubing and that energy is lost.

the 170gph pump i got had a huge decrease in waterflow when you raise the showerhead to about 3 feet above the pump. what kinds of pumps are the rest of you with bongs using for pumps and where can i get them?

Also the best showerhead i found was the watering thing at the end of the merical grow kits that you hook up your hose to. it is plastic but exactly what you would want.

Yeah anything under 200 isnt going to cut it, 300+ would be ideal :-)....

I bought a pump rated at 211 GPH and the water flow is good, but my problem is to fit the shower head... I thought putting a plate with lots of holes instead of shower head and the water input just above it, will it work?

Or could you suggest me how to install the shower head into the pipe? I have a 4" piping.

I'm using 4" piping for my cooling setup, and I had a hard time finding a showerhead that would fit. What I'm doing:

After I found a showerhead that would fit (at Lowe's), I noticed that it comes apart . . . there's a sheath that comes off to expose the internals of the showerhead. With the sheath removed, there's plenty of room for exhaust air to flow around the showerhead.

I bought a 'General Purpose Drain' for PVC pipe at Home Depot. It's basically a flared piece of PVC with a metal grate screwed onto the wide end. I removed the grate, and used it as a template to lay out the screw holes in some Lexan.

I'm got a 90-degree fitting with 1/2" NPT male threads on one end and a 1/2" hose barb on the other. I'm using the OD of the threads as a template to drill a hole in the lexan for the fitting, then I'm going to insert it into the hole and screw the showerhead on from the other side. I'll then screw it onto the drain where the grate originally went, and attach the drain to the top of my bong.

I'm taking pictures as I go, so hopefully I'll have some to show in a few days.

I have a shwer head with a handle, that a problem but I don't think I can get a 4" shower head and connect the hose to the head... any idias?

I'm not sure I follow you. Do you have a picture/link for your showerhead?

Are you saying that instead of screwing directly to the water pipe it is attached to some sort of arm that screws to the pipe? If so, you may be able to cut a groove in the side of your pipe near the top and feed the showerhead through from there.

But if your showerhead is 4" wide and you're using 4" pipe you may have a problem getting enough air to flow around the head out the top. You might want to consider putting some sort of coupling on and mounting your showerhead in a small length of 5- or 6-inch pipe to facilitate airflow.

Your idea for the plate sounds like a good one. You could fit a lot of 1/16" (at the largest, I think) holes on a 4"-diameter circle. Just be careful to space them somewhat evenly. You might want to lay out some sort of grid (maybe 1/8" squares) and drill holes at the intersections. Fitting the plate in the pipe flush so water doesn't leak around might prove to be a challenge.

yeh, i bought a 10 liter pre hour pump i didnt think it would work anyway. most pumps have a maximum hight they can pump on the box

Just exchanged the pump for a 400gph one. MUCH better. no troubles at all now.

i just got my waterblock yesterday and hooked it up to the system. Temperatures are way down and i can overclock a bit more, but i don;t know how much yet.

one problem that has arison is that the BeCooling jaged edge waterblock that i got is SEVERLY limiting waterflow by about 70%. this system has a 400gph pump, but even then there is not enough waterflow to send out streams of water out of the showercap and as the waterflow does not change with elevation so it should not be the pumps fault.

Is this normal?

currently the water is tap water being pumped through a large open resovour.

using the temp probe on the epox mb at 1533mhz and 2.00v i have an ambient of about 23c and a CPU temp of 45c giving me a C/W of 0.21 while folding.

I may try ajusting the clamp to tighten it later. could this be a problem? I used AS2n applied very thinly and checked twice.

Also a physics question i have but i have forgoten the math: How long does it take exposing a gallon of water to 100watts to raise the water temp by 1 degree celcious?

PS: Temp made it to 45c before i poored a thing full of ice into the resevour and the temps are now droping.

make that two things of ice and temps are at 37c and droping.

Thanks!
