View Full Version : Stealthed drive problem
My girlfriend and I have now stealthed drives on two computers, but on both, whenever we close the drives, they catch on the otherdrive bay covers as they go in. :(

i'd say you need to adjust it... how much are they catching by? if it's not much you could file away the area thats catching from the bottom...

that is what i had to do (sand down the edges so that they dont catch) try readjusting them first but i think that the stealth drives are the coolest thing you can do in a mod :attn:

How are you stealthing the drives?
It was very easy the way I did it. I removed the front cover to the cd rom bay so I just had a bare tray and the small tray cover (the tray cover is the small piece that snaps onto the tray itself). I then took out my 3M super sticky double-sided tape and put it on the front flat edge of the tray cover. I then closed the drive, and carefully placed the case's bay cover into place on the sticky tape.
That was it, never had a problem. I wouldn't recommend filing anything down, doubtful it would look good - and thats the whole point of a stealth mod. :)

I did the same as IMOG, except after the tape, I also super glued the pieces together.
The only problems I have had involve the tray cover not holding onto the tray as tightly as I would like, and accidently popping the wole aparatus off when removing the front bezel.

I didn't want it too tight, so I could make changes in the future and it was reversible if I wanted to go back to a normal drive - but I see what you mean - if you press on the drive to close it, it is a little wobbly, though not loose enough to fall apart. The sticky tape I used is very strong.
To finish off my mod, I downloaded two applications - one called strokeit, and one called wizmo. With these, I open and close my CDrom just with mouse movements. :D

I did the plastic nub thing; push in on the corner to open.
I am using aluminum bay covers and the superglue doens't stick to the alum just the tape, so in the event of removal, I just gotta get the tape off.

How about sanding the edges on the inside of the bays at an angle, so then the drive goes back in, the angle will cause it to just slide in.

When I stealthed my drives I had to sand the bottom of the two faceplates or they would catch. I also just used some adhisive puddy I got at a crafts store so I can change the drives if I want(Which was good as I replaced my DVD drive with a faster one about a month later).
