View Full Version : What's a safe dip for the 12v rail?

Unfortunately it seems every motherboard I've had lately has been too new to easily get MBM to work with it, but today I realized that in the overclocking software for my motherboard it reads the rail voltages.

I'm dual Primeing to run things up somewhat, and most seem fine... my 3.3v is 3.31 steady, my 5v is 5.12 steady, but my 12v sits around 11.7. It hasn't dropped below that, but that still seems down some.

I know Primeing isn't the best way to gauge usage under load since it doesn't exactly spin up my optical drives and so on, but still.

While the ATX standard allows a 5% variance (11.40v-12.60v) on the
+12v rail, the closer you are to 12.000v the better. Especially when OCing.

Don't trust any software readings. They all read from the same source.
The only way you can be sure what voltages you have to
work with is to measure them with a MultiMeter.

Im the same these p4`s are very 12volt hungry.
If i set my cpu fan to 2500rpm then dual prime i can hear the fan pitch change and it slow down a few 100rpm
