Best thing i have found that cleans nasty cpus is pure alcohol (probably not spealt right, lol) I've used this numerous times and it get's off about 95% of the old artic silver , just make sure your using lint free cloths

I seem to have problems with the alcohol as it just smears the silver everywhere and the soapy water picks it up without smearing it.

I use my mums nail polish remover, never had any problems at all with it, as long as you wipe it off with something that can absorb the AS it shouldn't smudge

Sure the stuff ur using is over 95% pure alcohol?? if not that is probably your problem.. I'm able to get ahold of pure alcohol.. thru our bases hazmat site.. I'm in the military, hehe we got all sort of nice chemicals to play with.. I'm sure paint thinner would do the trick too but i'm sure it'd be too strong and probably damage the cpu in some way..

Like Phil and Bubba suggested, nail polish remover and soapy water work real well...something else that works real good is lighter fluid (believe it or not), and like alcohol it evaporates a few seconds after contact with the chip and die.;)

I used some liquid soap and a qtip then wiped it off with a cloth. It worked great

Never waste pure alcohol. Leave the CPU covered in thermal grease and drink the alcohol.

One thing I don't recomend though is white spirit or paint thinner, it's too thick and does just smudge the AS around and doesn't evaporate very quickly

I use WD-40 and an old toothbrush then I use a cotton swab with alchol to get rid of any thing the WD leaves behind.

I takes my about 1 minute to clean of the AS2 then about another 2 minutes to clean of the what the wd leaves behind , plu the wd40 cleanes the the AS2 off the tooth brush real easy.

one question though, why would you want to clean AS off the core?
