Wow you can barely read the writing on this its like silver on silver etching :)

Its an SL6WK Malay
L349B475

Weird thing is, its an OEM chip, but the heat spreader orta looks scratched? I haven't taken it out of the little OEM chip pack it came in......but I can see some fingerprints on the heatspreader that aren't mine.

That normal for an OEM chip? I haven't even installed it yet....

I just popped the top open, and looked underneath, and it looks like it has 12 capacitors underneath

If the batch# started with a Q instead of the L, it might be slightly better.

Well I hope to have it installed tonite, along with an XP-90, so we'll see what it can do.

I've seen several SL6WK Malay 3.0C do very good. The one thing that I noticed was that it's a week 49 of 2003. Usually the newer the better. It should still do at least 3.6 gig. Good luck, hope you get 250 FSB.

SL6WKs are a lot more robust than SL6WUs. You should be able to hit at least 250 fsb. Good luck.

Well I "conservatively" fired it up at 235fsb.....and its happily running along at 3.5xx Ghz.

I installed it, put on a THIN layer of arctic 5 smoothed with a razorblade...then fitted on the XP-90 (Are those heat pipes supposed to have liquid in them?? Should I hear it sloshing around? Or are they just empty containers full of AIR) :)

...anyways..got the XP-90 HS on there, a 92mm fan on top blowing down....got it attached and running.

I think the MB reports that at idle its at 52c......dunno if thats hot or cold, but AIDA32 is reporting that CPU temp is between 42 and 46...its idling right now at 3.533Ghz.
Default voltage, etc.

I haven't tried Priming yet. What should I shoot for on this chip...250mhz FSB? Thats the rated speed of my Ram, PC-4000 Ballistix.....

Is this a high temperature for a 3Ghz northwood overclocked with a XP-90 on top?
Also, whats the temperature where I need to get nervous with this chip......if I need to feed it more volts.

try to keep it under 60C, Im super paranoid about heat though so that might be a low figure :p

shoot straight for 250fsb and see what happens.

250 boots up fine....temp with xp-90 on and hovering at stock voltages is at 50c according to AIDA32, which probably reads 1 or 2 degrees higher than the MB value, tho I think Aida takes its information straight from the Diode so...who knows.

Problem is, it fails prime.

In fact, I was monitoring voltages and noticed before PRIME failed, my voltage was at 1.52 (normal)...and then when PRIME started crunching it dropped to 1.47 and then failed.

Think I need to up the Voltage a little bit to bring PRIME into stability?

Also, is 60c really the "TOO HOT!" threshold for an overclocked northwood??

Is this running hot for a Northwood C??? Again I'm wondering if I've got too much or too little AS5 on there. Also, the 92mm is generic SUNON that came with my case...its relatively quiet, seems to moving some air, but its no Tornado.....

i suggest u get an enermax 92mm adjustable fan from sidewindercomputers

and yes u need to up the vcore a little

Say...I just read that the CPU diode on the ABIT motherboards completely misreports the temperature......could that be why my bios and AIDA are reporting such high idle temperatures on a stock-running 3.0c??? Stock 3.0c temps at stock voltage show 48c, and this is with an XP-90 HS and 92mm generic fan blowing down on the chip. Case has 2 decent 80mm intakes and 1 decent 80mm exhaust, plus dual 80mm fans in the PS.

My 2.4C overclocked crashes if the temp goes above 61C. So you may be hoping.

I also have an SL6WK and an XP-90. Temps are about 30 idle, and 44 load, however I am using a tornado with a rheobus on the lowest setting.

My 3.0C does 254fsb stock volts dual prime stable, which is just over 3.8GHz, but my chip has 30 transistors instead of 12, so I got lucky :D

Maybe try get a tornado and bump up your vcore a bit and see what happens, good luck.
