im a bit new to building computers and i have a question which would probably clear a lot of things up for me.

im planning on getting a 2800+ barton 333mhz fsb processor, along with 1gig of ddr400 ram. is paying extra for ddr400 rather than ddr333 ram pointless? ive heard that the clockspeed of your ram cant exceed the fsb of your processor. is this true?

Exactly how much money do you think you can save this way?

Will your next processor also be 333fsb?

You can indeed run the memory faster than the fsb, but you would not want to with the chipset you have. To date only SiS and Intel have produced async memory modes that have any merit. But you need to buy PC3200 anyway. If you already have some PC2700 by all means use it, but to buy it over PC3200 today for the pocket change it saves you is nuts.
