Ok,so my arctic cooling rv5 6800 cooler is arriving 2moro, and my xfx 6800gt is arriving saturday, is there anything I should know about methods for fitting this revision? how much as5 should i use and where on these 6800 ones? iv heard the ram cant always have some on cos of the large distance between the silencer and the chips on some models....Iv also heard getting the stock cooler off some of th nvidia cards is a b*tch...any advice guys?
Thanks

The only thing I would say is that make sure you screw the screws evenly. I installed one on monday, and I tightened one too far, so the heatsink was on weird and almost broke the core. Just find the right balance and don't over tighten it is all I can say.

should i just tighten it like i did with my 9800pro, and just turn the scews until they get to the stage where i couldnt tighten them without using force?

Tight them in cross pattern, and when you feel resistance turn the screws around 540 degrees and stop. This should be alright.
As to the AS5, don't over due 1mm layer should be more then enough, and don't worry about the memory as cooling it down is not segnificent.

A general rule of thumb for AS5, no matter what your putting it on, is that you want as THIN a layer as possible, but without leaving any spots uncovered (i.e. you wanna cover the entire surface). You can put it on the memory, it cant hurt (I put it on), but be careful not to spill it onto other parts of the card, as AS5 is conductive, so that could lead to the card shorting. As long as your careful, and you smooth it out with a credit card, your fine. Oh, and the cooler isnt really that hard to take off, so dont worry about that.

I changed mine last week for a rev 5, no problems taking the old one off, just a few screws, nothing clever. Make sure you use plenty of paste in the memory, with the shape of the HS it is possible the copper over the mem could not touch. It warns you of this in the instructions, i had to take mine off and re-do as i could see a small gap over one memory module. I put a fair amount of AS5 on the GPU and used the silcone based compound supplied with the card for the memory, Artic cooling reckon the silicone stuff is better for filling gaps (and its cheaper for applying in quantity over the ram). The first time i placed it i wasn't happy about the amount of AS5 on the gpu so removed it and re-cleaned and re-applied more. Because you have to tighten the HS by hand i would rather the AS5 made up any differences induced by un-even tightening rather than having to do it so tight that i could damage something.

To be honest at idle the card runs about the same temp 56Deg (the fan is running about low speed). The fan now is silent, you really cannot hear anything atal from it. During 3dMArk05 i have seen 68, however as soon as 3Dmark finished the temp drops really quickly back to 58. I have tried running the fan at full speed all the time, but to be honest even 68 is not even warm by 6800 standards and i prefer the silent treatment.

I have run the card at 450core and 1.2 mem and the temp does change at all, basically i am really impressed with the cooler
