I`m having a problem trying to overclocking my CPU, currently i have a slot 1 Coppermine 800E and my mobo is an MSI 6199 with the VIA Apollo Pro Plus Chipset, I can overclock it to 990Mhz Fsb at 124x8 (never passes 33°C) but when i try to go beyond that it just hangs, in know that it is because it can`t change the PCI multiplier or something (I tried in this mobo a P3 1Ghz (133x7.5) @1200+ and was fine ) i know that it works fine if a put a CPU which is 133 Fsb, so I don`t know why can`t do it with mine 100Mhz Fsb, To overclock i can use the bios for 122 Fsb or MSI BUSRacing that came with my mobo, other programs like Softfsb didin`t work because i can`t find the right combination of my mobo/chipset on it.
Any Ideas? I know that is the PCI multiplier because if try 124Mhz fsb (41,3Mhz PCI/3) it works, but 124Mhz fsb (31Mhz PCI/4 it) hangs, and anythnig passing that using MSI BUSRacing.
Anything that you think i will try coz I know this CPU can give a lot more!!!!
Thank You!!!
Pd: Memory is not a problem

Hi Darkseid, wellcome to the Forum,
forget any kind of prg to set the Fsb, take a look to the user manual of your Mobo on how to set the Fsb to 133Mhz, generally through a jumper on the Mobo, or into a Bios section, if not stable rise a little the VCore (the voltage of the Cpu) but not over the 15% of the rated value.
About your temps well, seems to be good, never must go over 50 degree C, but less is better, to monitor the temps of your system I suggest you to use MotherBoardMonitor that you can found at http://mbm.livewiredev.com/
I hope it helps you

Now I'm downloading the User Manual of your Mobo for more support ;)

Thanks, but i`ve try that, i forgot to tell :)
when i change my mobo jumpres fromo AUTO to 133 it didn1t even start, even it has the option for 105 fsb and don`t works niether, did you know why it can be?
Thanks, i really like this forum!!!!

Probably you need to rise a little the Vcore (Voltage) to satisfy the bigger request of energy of your chip OverClocked.

After that you set the jumpers on Mobo for a Fsb of 133Mhz, you must enter into the Bios section called 'Cpu Plag & Play III' and modify the parameter of 'Cpu Speed' on Manual, but probably is just on Manual, and adjust the Cpu voltage.

I will try to increase Voltage before change Jumpers, but asi i told you if i now chage the jumpers i can`t enter the bios because the machine wouldn`t start, but i never try increase voltage before doing that, i`ll tell you later how it went Thanks!!
Sorry but as you can see english is not my native language ;)

Don't worry, for me is the same :D
overclockers.com helps also for the English learning
If you cannot boot after you set the Fsb on 133Mhz, try many times but only if you are sure of your chip temps! must be around 40 degree C at the rated speed.
Good luck and let me know what happens
P.S. try at boot to press F10, can helps to enter into Bios and set the standard values.

No, i`ve try it and it didn`t work, i don`t think that is a voltage problem because at 990 run stable with Vcore at 1.65, i raise it to 1.8 wht try put fsb 133 w/ jumpers and didn`t even start, i`m really confused and don`t know what else to do!!

Plz, can you report me the settings that you have into the Bios section Cpu Plag & Play III? I'm thinking to something 'wrong' but depends by the fact that it's really strange, generally it works easly @133Mhz and more.
Well, at this point I suggest you to try, for some days, at the rated speed (Fsb@100) and with the max voltage possible (always not over the 15% then the rated voltage) this can helps for OC step, but take a look to the chip temps ;)

I will try some burn in for a few days, my Cpu Plag & Play III settings are 1.65 vcore (1.7 sometimes but i`ts really not needed)
and fsb Manual and 122x8 (37 off) that`s the best that i can get, i`ve try on this mobo a p/// 1ghz w/ fcpga who has it`s own jumpers and then it did do it at 133 and then the Cpu Plag & Play III let me go to 155 fsb, got any ideas? if the burn in doesn`t work i don`t know what else to do, only get a flip chip /w fcpga!! but i don`t want to!!
Well i realy thank you this and if you have any other idea it`s welcome!! but i have no $$$ so that`s it.
Bye!!!!!!

Please, can you give me the temps reported by MBM about your chip @full load (100% load) coz 33 degree C are really low, what kind of cooler are you using on your P///?

Well, since yesterday i`v installed windows 2000 i can`t use the same program that i use before for the temps, but now i have the MBM 5 and is working ok.
consider that now is a really cold day almos 10 degrees, so at 976Mhz full load it went only to 28 degrees, but on a hot day it can rise to 33 and maybe 34 but no usually, with the slot 1 stock fan it use to rise to 39 and a little more in full load, but (don`t laugh) i`ve put a power supply in front of the stock fan and it lower the temps a lot asi you can se, it`s not even attached to it, it`s just standing over the video card in a 45° angle with the p/// , beliveme it really works!!
and this way it also coolers the memory and northbridge.
I hope this give you any other ideas
Bye!!!!

Another way to check if your chip works @133Mhz of Fsb is to use the system without any Pci cards, and only with the vid cards that I suppose is an Agp, if the system works, well all depends by Pci cards, so insert one card and reboot, untill you install everything in, to found the Bad.
I hope it helps you ;)
