Ok I just reformated my computer and the first thing I do is go to windows update but before I no it I get viruses and a crap load of spyware that stops my downloads and transfers me to porn sites  why does this happen can I do any thing?

are you using a router? if so, the virus may actaully be on the router, there's no reason why a clean copy of windows should be doing that

This is can be true, in very, very, very 'RARE' cases. Most likely he/she, has a broadband connection w/o a router, and is connected to the Inet via a broadband cable modem and performing an OS install while connected. ( a definite no no, which has been covered and beaten to death here) AS soon as the network drivers are loaded, the 'fresh' and unpatched pc is subject to 'any' exploit that is out there right off the bat. IE - infected.

Ok I got every cleaned up I have a DSL line and I was useing it in my laptop when formating. All you have to do is turn on the firewall and that stoped all the crap from attacking me. Also how would you get a virus off the modem?
