does it matter

I know Dual Channel does not make much differance to Athlon XP chips, so in my case i have 2 x 256 megabites of Ram running in Dual channel mode but iwant a giga of Ram not both weatheed weather it DC but is it better to have 2 x 512 or 2x256 + 1 x 522


or does it matter reason is that if it does make that much if the ni would just buy a stick of 512mb of ram
