Ok, so I need a new hard drive, as my 40gig western digital hdd is both too small and its starting to act up. I'm currently looking at these two hard drives:

This Seagate drive (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=22-148-033&depa=0&manufactory=BROWSE)

and this Hitachi drive (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=22-145-048&depa=0&manufactory=BROWSE)

I'm not sure which one to go with because I don't have experience with either company. Both drives have the same cache, seek time, etc, the only difference is the seagate is 200 gigs and the hitachi is 250 gigs. I would gladly sacrifice 50 gigs of storage if I knew that the seagate drive was more dependable so if anyone could help me out here it would help a lot.

So, which drive do you guys think is better?

there are three brands in hard drives that i will buy. maxtor, western digital, and seagate. i've had bad experiences with ibms, hitachis, and others. i'd stick with a main brand. that's usually the first to go in a 4+ year old system.

No contest with the 5 year warrenty Seagate has with their drives. Seagates are quiet, quite fast and again the 5 year warrenty is the icing on the cake.

The Seagate should be faster as well since the newer revision drives use the 100gig(2x100) platters where Hitachi uses 80 gig platers but about 3 of them(3x80).
