View Full Version : 9800 Pro to TV?
Hi, I am trying to get my TV to function as a monitor so I can play DVD movies on the big screen.
I dug out some parts that came in the 9800 Pro box and plugged the S-Video/whatever-the-hell-you-call-the-yellow-video-cable adapter into the card and stuck that same yellow video cable into it, plugging the other end into the yellow video cable port on the back of my TV (my tv has no s-video port).
I would think that would be all I need, but I can't get anything to show up on my TV screen. I tried pressing the tv/video button on the remote but all it did was make the screen go black. I tried opening up the ati control panel in display properties->advanced->displays and selecting the tv option (strangely enough my monitor was still working just as usual when I did this), and still no picture on the TV.
What am I doing or not doing? I'd love to get this set up soon, if anyone has experience with this problem I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks!

open the video properities (right click on desktop background.) go to the tile that hs the resolution settings and look at the two little monitor icons at the top. now right click on display 2 and select attached. should work then.
Ok, I did what you said and I got a partial image of my desktop background to show up but it was all zoomed in and I couldn't see any of the icons or anything. I changed the resolution to like every possible setting and it got a little bit better (you can see more of the desktop background- everything but like an 1.5 inch margin around the screen on all sides), but still I could not see my mouse cursor, my icons, and when I put in a DVD it was playing on my computer monitor but not on the TV. I don't know why that could be... I am also confused why the image on the tv did not change when I switched resolutions to anything bigger than like 800 x 600... it zoomed out for 1024x768 but any bigger than that and the image size stays the same with the wacked margins and everything.
once again, any help would be greatly appreciated.
anyone on this? nobody has had this problem?
I just tried it I had to play with the settings on the TV try changing it to video 1 or 2.

I hooked my comp up to my t.v a couple months ago with a video cable(yellow). I need to put my t.v on aux for it to work. I will warn you now tho, if you don't have a half decent television its gonna suck real bad cuz t.v's just don't have the resolution capabilities of computer monitors. Most tv's only run at about 480x320(not exact), UNLESS you have a nice flat screen trinitron, hdtv or a plasma then it will look pretty blurry.
alright... yeah my TV is nice, but it's kind of old and doesn't have 2 video modes (I dont even think it has AUX mode). Maybe I just need to face the facts and give up. Thanks for the advice, guys, if anyone knows of a work-around or whatever feel free to post up.

go to overlay in the ati control panel, select "Theater mode options", make sure Theater mode is selected, then select full screen. Now your video's will all play in full screen on your TV even if not full screen on your monitor.
Is this what you had in mind?

If it looks like it is zoomed in, you need to drop your Resolution down to around 800x600, 1024x768 may work also. What resolution are you running your monitor? When setting the control panel for the tv, you also need to set it to the primary (The round dot).

If you still can't get it to show up on your t.v, turn to channel 00, this is what my aux channel is on my t.v. Good luck!
