View Full Version : Help me Tunnel this...

ok guys here's my problem, I'm quite happy with my temps, at room temps of 26-27C my highest I ever went is 44C@full stock load. (@1.6) This was achieved with only air cooling and I'm using an SK6 /w Delta fan.
The noise is driving everyone aronud me crazy so because I just got this and I think it would be a total waste of money + decent temps to switch to water cooling (just assembled this system last week) I have decided to try funneling a slower yet just as powerful 92mm fan or 80mm as I hear they get the job done as well.
Now I wanted to know if they will drop my temps at all? I mean will a setup such as that would be as good as the 60mm 38cfm 7000rpm delta fan?
If I use a 80mm fan that can spit out 55cfm could that be better than the 38cfm delta?
you will probabally get worse performance, from most of the round ups of the fan adapters the only fan that matched the delta was the bigger delta which makes them pointless.
I would recomend you just put the fan on rather than funneling it, of course this may interfer with temp readouts if you are using an in socket thermister as it will be cooling the surrounding area of the cpu which can fool the sensor.
I have to agree with Would71 that a glaciator would have been a much better choice if you don't like volume.

well. A M.Glaciator is a lot more expensive and just as cool, just look at the temps I am getting vs, yours, lol. Same thing, your amb. temps are a bit higher but so is my cpu speed so it all balances out I guess but anyways this post isn't for comparing the two HSF's but rather telling me how the quiet fans will affect my cooling and how to do it vuagly? Thanx for the comment anyways, better than nothing.
edit.. didn't see your post phill till now and I see both of your points I guess the price really got my involentary vote, I should have put up the extra money I guess but I guess I have to go do the best next thing now which is tunnel somthign in which I will have to build myself, I believe with some time and a lot of thought I will be able to build a very good tunnel.
one thing you could do is to use a 60mm ys-tech 27cfm fan on the sink, and cut a hole in the side of your case and install a reasonabally powerful 80-92mm fan, the ys-tech obviously wouldn't be as good as a delta fan but the case fan would compensate for this by providing it with fresh air from outside the case.

well right now I have the nice Sanyo 92x32 as an axail fan right at my delta so it would defently go up on temps but I guess I'll have to go with that if I run out of ideas, but I'll keep an open mind for a week or so, I'll think and I'll let you guys know what I go with.
One idea I had is double faning, if I take 2 fans and line them up ontop of each other that might push a little more air into the cpu, like a strong 80mm fan on the TS-tech.

phils idea is a good one. If you do get a slower but bigger fan, get the thickest one you can get. It is going to deal with the backpressure the best.
have you lapped the sk6? if not then doing so may compensate for the less powerful fan

yes, I have lapped the HS.

dood those cores are alot cooler than these big ones
my 950 @ 1200mhz @ 133 fsb @ 2.1 volts runs cooler than my 1200 @ 1400 @ 133 fsb @ 1.85 volts
MHZ and core design makes a world of differance
your @ 1050.........nothing outstanding as related to heat
no matter of the voltage applied
the M.Glaciator is a ok heatsink......not as good as a SK-6
try a Sunon 26CFM fan on it
its quiet and still performs well
you might raise to 47C
a 80mm with a funnel will work also........ and keep you REAL close to the delta temps......

AZZKICKER...thanx that was very informative and could you tell me where I could find one of these funnel kits for the 80mm fan, if it gets me within 1-2 degrees from the delta I will be very happy.
Would71... heh, you crack me up every time I read your posts, you always find a little screw to waddle about, lol... keep it up and you'll be in american polotics!
ps... just for the record if you want a real comparision, I can run my chip at 1640 with 1.89 Vcore and get 44C. Don't take this as a com'n or anything of that offense.
thats because every 10W of heat only contributes about 1-2oC to the over all cpu temp so an extra 18W would only be about 3oC extra if the reading is accurate. What are you measuring cpu temp with? if it's an in socket thermister then don't take those temps as gospel, it's quite common for them to be lower or higher than the actual core temp, it may be worth investing in a digital thermometre like the senfu one, they are only about $15 and are very accurate.

lol, heh, such bad tempor, lol, you just got on my list of "too serious to live"
You got to relax a bit more, nobody is trying to be rude to ya, not me at the very least, and I'm sure azzkicker wasn't either, arguements are what keeps us alive, though comunism wouldn't hurt little america here I woudln't put a hot-tempored overclocker at the top, so cool down man, with your temps that shouldn't be a prob.
You kids keep this up and we're going home... :D

not that I have the slightest care because he really seems to have some problems but what did I do to get on his nerves? I wonder what would happen if I were to say "Hello" to him when he's in a bad mood. Oh well.... I'll stop wasting your time guys, sorry this post ended up so long and mostly full of bull.
Okay, we're going home... :(
