I need help on ocing my PII 450 i would like to speed it up a little but without having to increase voltage to it or go to alternative cooling methods. I have herd you cant oc a PII is this true?? and if you can how would you go about doing it? I have an asus p3v133 mobo with jumpers that i am able to switch. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can overclock those but they don't overclock as well, in whole, as more recent chips like the Coppermines.
You will need to increase your front side bus speed past 100MHz in order to overclock it. If the jumpers you have only go from 100 to 133MHz you are probably in trouble if you don't want to get into terrific cooling and raising the voltage. Those older chips run HOT and need it more than ever if overclocking. If you have some settings in between like 112 or 115 then you could give those a try. Just don't expect a whole lot out of it...with a low multiplier of 4.5 you won't get tremendous increases.
EDIT:
Keep in mind that your memory is only rated for 100MHz bus speeds as well. If it can't go very far past that it won't matter what the processor can do.
Also, WELCOME TO THE FORUMS! Hope you stick around...we're the best on the net.
You can overclock your P2 by increasing BUS frequency:
original FSB is 100MHz, so you can try it up to 133MHz.
(See manual of your mobo how to set jumpers..)
It is not necessary to change multiplier jumpers 2x, 2.5x, 3x
etc. because these processors has locked multiplier).
133 FSB gives you 600MHz and it may work by a default
core voltage. But if not, you must increase core voltage.
Try 2.2V, it is not too high at all. I had P2 333 and it was
stable at 450MHz with 2.2V core coltage.
From where did you heard that P2 is impossible to overclock??
Almost any processor can be overlcocked!!:)

My system is currently oc from 450 to 504 by changing my fsb to 112, i cannot change by multiplyer (im assuming that means my cpu is locked??). I could possibly try to oc to 115 but at 120 my comp wont turn on and in my bios under cpu temp its saying n/a so im somewhat worried that my cpu could possibly be running to hot and i wouldnt know if it is or not. At 504mhz my pc is perfectly stable (i know ive only upped it 50mhz) but if i do bump it up to 115fsb you dont think that will be running my cpu to hot? i currently have 2 fans that came with the cpu on it already.

This is my mobo im not sure if it supports changing the core voltages or not...

Those cores are real tuff to OC I think the limit those cores can take is around 550. I'm assuming the core is the same as the celerons 400-466. I got my 433 peltiered at 540 with 1v less than default.
Well, I hate to be the one to say whether it's ok or not because I don't want you burning anything up there. Half of me says "It's only 14Mhz more on the CPU" and the other says "We don't know how hot that thing is already" considering it won't even post at 120 which isn't far away.
So, I guess, if it were me and ONLY me, I would do it. If you don't have temp sensors then for those old core CPUs I always just let it go under full load for about 30 minutes then see how long I can keep a finger on the heatsink of that thing. Crude, but it's all I have for one of mine with dual PII 350s. If you can't keep it on there, think how IT feels, haha.

Ya i guess ill bump it up as high as it goes and if it burns to hell its not a problem cuz i already have a new PIII cpu being shipped to me. BTW i cant touch the heatsink cuz there are to fans mounted ontop of it. Thanx jon for your help.

The finger method works. Thats what I use, I know it's not good at all to do this with a peltier, but I also have a P3 coming so I won't miss this CPU if it burns. Well my heatsink is only slightly warm and I run F@H all the time it's on.

Jon i made a mistake.... i can oc my processor up to 124mhz fsb but it is so unstable its riducilous just loading windows it gave me a registry error saying i had to reinstall windows so i dropped it down to 120 and it loaded windows fine but any application after that gave me a blue screen or some other error and it wouldnt even shut down windows so now im running at 115 and neither the back side of my cpu or the heatsink is warm. anyway to keep that thing stable while at 558mhz??
