The difference betwen the palamino and the t-bird are..... The pal has an improoved core which takes less vcore which intern leads to less heat it is also equiped with SSE but no SSE2. The current T-birds take alot of Vcore and are very hot unlike the pal thats why the pal is gona be worth it for overclocking :-). Hope I helped you a bit im kinda tierd but trying to explain this to u hehe.

you have a p4 1.3gig ... why in the world would you want to buy a palo?
sometimes i dont understand people ... do you all have this much money ... damn i love amd but if i would have a p4 1.3 i wouldnt want to change it for the first year ...
hmm thats just my point of view ... maybe i dont have as much money to spend on computers as you people do

yeah man but its not that much to upgrade to amd and really you should know that the difference between a 1.3 pentium and even a 1gig t-bird is huge ! i would do the same,
he knows why he wants to get th t-bird so go for it buddy!
your not too far from me either!hehehehe [oz!]

Some other differences between Palomino and TBird (also Spitfire and Morgan) are larger TLB's and hardware prefetch. These have proven to be very effective - I saw a 1 GHz Morgan review the other day that outperformed a 1 GHz TBird in several tests (one where file size exceeded the cache in both chips). This was also on motherboards that didn't have explicit Palo/Morgan support (and hence, treated them like standard Spitfire Durons, so any differences can directly be attributed to the hardware prefetch and larger TLB). We can only imagine, if Morgan is beating out TBird in some tests, how much better Palomino will be than TBird.... :) **evil grin**

It has the .13 micron copper rather than the .18 T-Bird aluminium internal transistors. it had also got a few more transistors and 17 SSE instructions.
Go to TOMSHARDWARE.com for a review and comparison with a P4.
The question I have with the Palamino is whether it will fit into existing mobos, and will we still be able to span the L1 bridges and thereby get access for overclocking??? If they are locked up, then that will pretty much leave us all out in the cold...eh?

Amd 760 chipsets (761 northbridge) will run Palomino, as for the rest i think only the new VIA KT266A board will work.
Hey Proze, hows TSWANE - Ex Pretoria doing. Watch planet of the apes lately????? MMMMMMM.

what are good internet providers in sa??
when I get there I still wanna post on oc.com!!
Hey Popadel, THANKS MATE...guess the old KT7E will have to just soldier on with a large, hot Athlon...dat aint bad tho...

its still .18, amd has not finished changing its fabrication plants over to .13 micron and soi yet. We'll have to wait a little while longer - like at least 6 months, til .13 comes along. The Palmino isnt really a big change over the athlon, but its clock speed will be higher so its probably a good buy.

It also ships with PowerNow! Technology which enables the chip to HALT in idle states as well as many other cooling benefits...

lennytiger, i fear you're going to be most disappointed when you get here. the internet here SUCKS A$$!!!!! telkom rips us off six-love with phone charges, you can rarely dial in at 56kpbs and leased-line doesn't exist for the home user.
the best of the cruddy isps is probably icon if you're in the pta or joburg area. mweb are complete sh1te, so don't even bother with them. as for the rest of the country, i don't know which are better.

I heard the Pal. will work on mobo's that have 133fsb (266fsb), like the Abit KT7A.....

Duron, Tbird, Pentium2,3,4, etc also have halt-on-idle, it's just a matter of the OS supporting it, with or without 3rd party programs such as CPUIdle.
