Hi guys,

Now I have noticed somthing about all these burning programs out there, we all use different programs to burn thinking they really burn just as well as all the others so comparing the stock temps isn't a problem but I think not...

Last night I have preformed some burn in progam tests, I ran sevral burn-ins to see how they all did and I was very surprised with how different the outcomes came to be.

Here are some I tested, I only had time to test these because my room temps decrease at night, so I didn't want to make any errors when getting these results. All of these programs were run for about an hour each during day time where my room temps didn't change.

Prime95- 40C
SETI- 44C
FOLDING- 44C
BURN6-48C

Hoot just mentioned Burn6 in one of his recent posts and I thought I'd give it a try and to my surprise it beat them all. I've been burnign in day and night for hte past 3 days NON-STOP with SETI and never got above 44C so it's not even a time issue, the room temp weren't even a var here. So Now I guess my real stock temps are 48C, what is yours using this program, I suggest you give it a try, and post your results, if you've been burning with seti or folding expect a slight increase.

Cheers.

Having problems with that zip. Maybe it's my floppy, but other stuff seems to open correctly. Guess I'll clock down and try.

Darnit! I just tried it on another comp and it opened fine. I guess I'm not stable yet. Er... my computer! I mean I guess my computer's not stable yet!

OK I am an idiot, How do you use this?

I dowload and unzip it, double click on "BurnBX" and get a Dos window and that is it

Is that how it works or am I doing something wrong?

Geez I feel dumb since it seems like such a simple program:)

no, your not an idiot, many people ask such quesions here. Anyways, to run this prog all you need to do is start a dos prompt, change to that directory and run burnp6.exe by just typing it in, easy? Even easier with win2k and XP, just double clock on burnp6.exe. That's all, nothing will show but if you look at your cpu usage you'll see it maxed out and your temps will certainly rise.

Also can be done from Start Menu/Run, type C:\[Drecroty_of_Folder]\burnp6.exe [ENTER]

Cheers.

Hi again,
Jon just pointed out to me that Burn6 is indeed a "better" burning program but it "overburns," in other words it uses the cpu in a way _you_ never could, SETI or FOLDING utulizes the processor as any other program could peak but burn6 is really meant for burinig.

I guess this means you don't really need your system to be stable when using this program, if it freezes/crashes it's not a big problem, in fact it's good, it tells ya you have reached the top speed. Another program that is said to be such a burner is StabilityTest, you may try it if you want, I don't have a link because I don't need anything more than Burn6.

I must say, Wow. Got my floppy drive working with a little bit of work in the BIOS and saw temperatures raise about 4C. VERY impressive. Thanks train22!
