View Full Version : Silver Mountain question
Is the Silver Mountain one of those Hs that you need to take off when you move you case, because of the weight?
Thanks.

I think Andy C did a review of this heatsink on his site, so that may be worth reading and he may be worth asking

its going to have a weight similar to the hedgehog, so that should give you a good comparison.
OK, thanks for your reply's. :)

I have a Tyan Thunder K7 dual AMD - both CPU's are cooled with the Silver Mountain - and moving the box around wasn't a prob. But with all HSF's of over 300g, don't bump it around too much. If the little socket catches get weak, those heavier HSF assemblies can bust them off. Had one bust off on me with a Hedgehog - didn't know it until after it the CPU fried.

Thanks, that was just the kind of answer I was looking for! :)

Safer than the Silver Mountain is the Swiftech MC462. Granted, it is pricier than the Silver Mountain - but it attaches to the motherboard as opposed to the CPU socket. Great air cooling, and the 80mm fan is quieter than the smaller 60mm 38cfm. Only draw back is the $65 - $75 price tag.

O know the Swiftech is a better cooler (in some opinions), but it's just to expensive :(
