I cant click on the attachment. What hdd is it? Is it SATA? If so, did you plug in power to both connectors? If so remove one immediately.

Does it have an IDE cable conected(the wide ribbon, the same type that connects your cd roms to your motherboard) or is it much smaller?

Unplug it. Now. Turn the PC off and leave the drive sitting.

Then when it's cool, turn the PC back on and backup the data pronto.

can't help you with the accessing part... but when i noticed my hdd was getting hot i stuck a fan under it blowing air onto the underside. dropped idle tmep at least 8 degrees C

L337 M33P was basicly saying he thinks your drive is defective. It sounds as if that it may be broke, except its doing something to create more heat than normal. When you shut off your PC & start it back up, can you hear the HDD (if your ear is reeeeally close) spin down & spin up (basicly: is it moving the platters)?

The attachment is telling me that your drive can be *seen* by windows, but not *accessed* by windows (like a flash reader w/o media inside). A quick search of that "para. incorrect" shows that its a telltale sign that you're SOL. Try finding some hardcore harddrive apps made by the hdd's mfg to try fixing it. Otherwise, you're like the others I saw in the search - they had no luck fixing their problem, even with scandisk, formatting, etc.

The other thing you can try is to remove all your cd drives from the second IDE channel and connecting the ribbon cable to that HDD. If you still can't read the drive contents, I'd suggest you get out the shotgun and put ol' bessie down... (unless you still have the warranty  ) Sorry.

what OS are you using?

Not that it means anything right now...
