I just recently bought a 1.33 Athlon 266FSB and a biostar m7vib and right out of the box im running at 65c idle and like 67-70c loading, and i have made no overclocking attempts, everything is default settings. My heatsink is a volcano 5 5200RPM and no case fans. Also artic silver is spread evenly and correctly. Is this to high? OR normal?

Seems pretty high to me I have a Volcano 5 also with no Artic Silver running a 1GHZ T-Bird @ 1.17GHz and my temps are 48 idle and about 54 load.

What are you using to monitor the temps?

im looking at the bios and a monitor that came with the motherboard and the two seem to be exactly the same. However i have been having no lock ups or reboots.

I am new to this stuff, so hopefully a senior member will chime in soon, but those temps are way to high.

I have been trying to get mine down also. I have seen/heard that if your temps are above the 40's you are running too hot and if they are in the high 50's to 60's you are in big trouble.

Sorry I can't be of more help:)

TURN YOUR COMPUTER OFF! NOW! Those temp's are WAY to high, if you kepp running that high, there is a very high chance that you will fry it. T-Birds are meant to run under 50C, 55Cmax.
See if you have attached your HS correct, and try to remove your case sides, and see what that does to your temp's.

Thanks Walter:)

That is what I thought, but being a newbie I didn't want to give false advice and look stupid:)

don't sweat it man! you were right!!

diurnal.. your temps are not too kosher mate. check that the hsf clip is the right way round. the things aren't symmetrical, and if oriented the wrong way, can cause incorrect pressure on the hsf which will cause horrible cooling.

post back and let us know what's going on!

I ve tried 3 different heatsinks and all the same temps, however I opened the case up and put a house fan to blow in there and it dropped considerably, about 10 degrees. Man i hate how they give a heatsink and say its amd approved and it sucks. And also they dont tell you to get more case fans too. Im building it for some one and now the deal i gave them has turned into a rip off.Cause now i have to add 3 case fans to cool this crap off.So ill make no profit off it, now! You think the biostar board is one of the causes of this, cause i know its a lowend board.

its because you ha NO!!!! case fans you need at least 1intake and 1 exhsaust id recommed at least 90mm fans

Also do you think adding 2 80mm case fans will drop it any.Sunons.Cause I dont even wont to put it in there if it wont drop it down, waste of time. The place I bought it from TCWO said one case fan will drop it 10 degrees, I have a hard time believing this one.But if I can get it down to about 50c idle and about 55-58 c load , would be this about what i should be shooting for?

Hey Scooby, the post about the clips is the way to go. I just built my first comp. with an sk6 and the clip was backwards. The impression left by the core on the heatsink of thermal grease should tell you if it is in full contact. I built this 1.4 Athlon and the temps kept rising. I finally noticed that when i took the SK6 off, only half of an impression existed. Boy I felt dumb (even dumber admitting to you all now).
