Laptop/touchpad issues

Ok heres the deal, every once in awhile on my laptop i'll be using the touchpad and it will stop responding, i will move my finger over it but the pointer doesnt move on the screen...i have to wait a few seconds and then it works again, anyone heard of this problem or had it happen? and clues?

acually sounds like an OS problem, doing something very intensive, but i had this problem on my dell. system needed a good cleaning anyways so i cracked it open, took everything apart, dusted, ect and put it back together, works fine now.
