hey guys, ive got a quick question, im selling some stuff cuz i want to get a higher fsb and my mobo and ram etc just wont let me go as high as i want. anyways, i found this guy with a really nice dfi, and some really nice ram, and a nice mobile 2500 that will do atleast 250x10. only problem is the ram is 2x256mb bh5 ofcourse. will 512mb of ram be enough? let me remind you i am going to be running a 256mb 9800pro.

depends on the game...doom3 and farcry would probably slow down a bit from not having the 1gb. I'd say go for the gig because wiht newer games you'll notice 1gb of PC2700 is probably faster than 512 of PC3500+

I find my RAM adequate for my needs at its current capacity. A friend of mine has an Athlon XP based system with 1.25 GB of RAM, I really don't notice that huge of a difference when playing games other than load times (which gives a noticable boost). Of course his processor is a stock 1600+.

Although the general concensus is that 512MB isn't enough for most things. I would jump on the deal and sell the BH-5 on eBay (goes for about $160) and get a GB kit of some decent PC3200.

If i drop out of Far Cry during gameplay and check on system usage, I often see 650mb+ RAM usage.
Doom 3 i'm sure is the same.

Also, if ever you do video editing, even once, you'll need all the RAM you can get. If i check on RAM usage during rendering of a DV movie with Adobe Premier, I often see 900mb+

I'll admit that 1gig is better than 512megs. How much better is subjective (of course).
Check out this link and you'll see what I mean.

Enough? Yes.
Optimal? No.

yeah, if possible get more memory. while i have good memory (corsair XMS ddr400) at times, i really wish i had boughten a gig of ddr33 or something. ill be buying more memory the moment i get more money believe me :)

hmm, what if i had 3 sticks of 256 in my dfi??? they all run about 250, so i should be able to stay around the 250ish range, would that be just as good as a gig of slower ram?
