Well....I tried fooling with the cpu chip....took off the heatsink and found out my custom cpu had a thermal pad on it (correct me if I'm wrong: like a pink sticker that covers the area where the hintsink connects with the chip)

Heh, while taking off the heatsink, I kinda messed up the pad, so it doesn't cover all of the chip. WOW what a difference, my temps used to be around 38 now it's 46 damnit.

Okay, so, tomorow, I'll go and buy some thermal paste....

Firstly...how do I take off this crap pad. it's like a damn sticker, and some of it's in between the core...and I dun wanna touch nothing till I get some help////

How dangeroud is this core? Is it okay to kinda remove the sticker carefully?

Secondly...when I apply the thermal paste...Where and how much. I have a AMD Duron chip so in relation to the chip where do I apply the grease? (ie. even over the bridges, over the core, etc.)

ok, to remove the pad use either acetone(nail polish remover) or rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth or some Qtips. You may have to scrape some on the heatsink, if so use a razor blade. You can use acetone or rubbing alcohol on the core, but if you have to scrape, be very careful. On how to apply the paste, http://www.articsilver.com has instructions that apply to any thermal paste, not just theirs. Hope this helps!

I think he meant to say "off". I usually use lighter fluid, but any mineral spirit will do the job (acetone, nailpolish remover, BBQ lighter fluid, etc...).

You may want to read Thremal Interface Basics (http://www.arcticsilver.com/thermal_interface_basics.htm) from Arctic Silver's Web Site. Solvent will only remove the thermal pad from the surace of the HS. If you want the best cooling, you need to remove all of the pad. The only way to do this effectively is to lap your HS.

And be sure the hsf is flush with the core when u mount it. your temps should improve by about 2-6 C if you do it right...
