View Full Version : WTF, slow WU times

When I first used SETI with my Duron 950, it was going at around 4.5 hours a W/U which is about right. But about 50% after, it's been going at close to 10 hours/WU for the rest of my first WU and is still going at that speed for my current WU...

Sorry if this is kinda vague, but can you associate this with anything?

what is the angle of the WU?? the smaller the number the longer it takes.

What your refering to is totally normal.. all work units on the CLC version "start out tremendously fast" with completion times half of what they will really be till they hit 25-35% then they slow down and wont speed back up till thier about 85% completed.. All my crunchers do this it's totally normal..
Crunch ON!!!

Man, but 10 hours for a Duron 900? That's not normal

Your not overclocking the fsb though are youy?? If not that I would say is the main reason your getting bad times.. Try using cas 2 with 2-2 timings as well as 4-way memory interleaving in the bios.. also make sure your not using any other programs in the background(norton's,burning cd's, playing games, etc) I wouldnt think a duron would do over 8 hours but i could be wrong.. Go for a T-birdy.. Extra L2 cache as well thier only 15 bucks more for a 1 gig that'd be sure to hit 1.5 ghz on aircooled setups.. DDR would greatly increase your times another hour or so atleast... My MP palamino systems are doing every WU that is handed to them in under 3hrs and 40 min.. These things " ROCK" :p :D
Crunch ON!!

Nope

Didn't understand a word in there...

This (http://pages.tca.net/roelof/setispy/faq.htm#3.3) will make seti spy show a more accurate finish time.

What Toomnymods was trying to say, is that some mobo's, in the bios, allow you to make tweaks that will improve your processing time.
If your bios allows and if your memory is CAS2 rated, make sure the bios is set to CAS Latency = 2
Some mobo's have a setting to set memory interleaving - if so, set it to 4way. If your bios does not support this then you'll have to use a prog like WPCREDIT and WPCRSET
If you can set your FSB (Front Side Bus) speed higher, that will also reduce WU times. The higher the FSB the shorter the WU times.
