Use regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\run\

and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run\

Or you can copy the msconfig.exe file from a win98 or me machine and use that to edit it, but you should only modify the startup tab, because the others are specific to the os.

You also should tweak the services that load with the administrative tools in the control panel. 3dspotlight has a pretty good guide: http://www.3dspotlight.com/tweaks/win2k_services/index.shtml

As long as you know what it is that you are removing, yes ... you just delete the value.

However, there are a couple of options.

You could install and run the latest version of MSCONFIG, which is straight from one of the early beta's of WinXP. It works very well ... much better than the Win98 version. Or you could get something like StartUp Cop, or StartUp Control Panel by Mike Lin, which does the same thing, basically ... but without access to the Services. Also, with one of these programs, you can cut off a TSR without deleting it, just in case you make a mistake.

I can send you both, if you wish. Just post an email address. Or email me. jtfoote@hotmail.com. Both are small, and shouldn't clog up your email. Or you can just search for them. I found MSCONFIG at GideonTech, and the other at Tucows.

Win2K doesn't have MSCONFIG unless you add it manually from 98. One of the drawbacks I think. It was a good utility.

Would you also like a copy of the WinXP MSCONFIG file that I sent to paxoman?

If so ... post an email address, or email me with one.

I like it; it's more powerful than the one in Win98.

That's the same thing I was talking about ... the WinXP program that will function in Win2k. It wasn't made for Win2k ... it comes from a beta of WinXP that predates RC1.

Well the important question is will it work? It says WinXP msconfig for Win2000. Is this not what we were talking about. Simplicity at it's best!!
