Currently own a MX 440 64mb, has served me well, but looking into something new to tide me over untill Feb. 2005 (new rig)

I *nearly* bought a 9800 Pro today, but thought twice about it. It would have cost me 230 Euro. So, my question is, what reasonable upgrade should I look for to pass the time? All I want to play is Homeworld 2 at full graphics and no slowdown in major battles, thats the goal :) (other games enjoyed: Q3, CS, etc)

Oh and dont start with a 9500 np softmodded to 9700 Pro because I can't get them over here ! or at least, have seen none, only the crappy 9550's and ****.....Bleh, I hate Europe hardware wise.....so damned expensive too....oh and no mobo swapping for me (K7T266Pro 2, 4xAGP slot) cause that would be pointless and a waste of money....

Mid range card should suit you fine - look for one of the following:

- ATI 9600, 9600pro or 9600xt
- Nvidia 5700 series card.

Thanks for the reply :)

Only downside to those choices are, that the price difference is more or less negligible when compared to the 9800 pro

To make things easier, whoever reads this go to:

www.cdromland.nl

On the left side click PRODUCTEN

On the right side scroll down and click VIDEOKAARTEN

Now which, out of that list, would be the best bang for the buck +-200 Euro spending limit ?

(That shop is only 30 seconds walking distance from me, heh)

I'd get the 5900 XT. Real nice card for the money. If not, then probably the 9600 XT.

Why not just get the 9800Pro and when you get your new rig put it in to that? or just get the card you want for your new rig and use it intill you get it?

Because for my new rig come Feb I want a X800 PE or whatever is the latest and greatest installment by then. For that I'd need a mobo and most certainly a PSU upgrade :burn:

just keep what video card you have and save up for a complete system haul. a 9800pro would be totally wasted in your current system anyway and the games you play can be run on even a tnt anyway
