A router or a hub.
If you need more ports just grab some old 10Mbps hub for cheap, it'll do the job for a farm, thats what I did back in the day when I had mine. Then make/buy some short ethernet cables.

WAN = Wide Area Network (Does not apply to a house)
LAN = Local Area Network (This is what you are doing with a farm)
LAN = One building, one address, one network
WAN = Your street, your city, etc.
:)
A router gives out addresses to each computer. It is a smart hub with lots of wonderful nifty features.
A hub just takes in info, and retransmits it among all of the ports. The header on the information is read by the computers and they determine if the information is for them or not.
A switch is a smart hub that knows where to send data.

I used a 4 port router and 8 port switch when I had 10 computers folding in my home. I lost 2 ports connecting the 2 devices together, but it was cheaper than buying a bigger router.
router was $25 used
switch was $25 from newegg

heh. if you do end up getting a cheap 10mb hub do not put your self on it, because most of the time they are half duplex..
i picked up a dell 2016 switch off of ebay accouple months ago. 16 ports 10/100 full duplex autosension auto crossover/uplink. its friggen SWEET :D was only $25 bucks too
