need help with picking a new HSF please

my duron 900 is getting up to 45C (while folding) during the hottest part of the day and is only running at 998mhz so i i am going to head to town today and buy a new HSF.

i would appreciate any suggestions on a reasonable one that will do the job.

also i broke the lil tab off that the heatsink clip hooks on to, there is still a lil stub that my current heatsink is barely holding on to but im scared to death it is going to pop off. so if you can think of any that use another method of clamping down please let me know.

I have the Swiftech MC462A, which is expensive but probably the best HSF. It has through-the-motherboard bolts (it uses the 4 holes around the chip) so you don't have to worry about the broken tab. I have the same problem on my MB and that is part of the reason that I went with the 462A.

That does mean that you have to remove the MB in order to install the HSF.

There are other HSFs that use all three tabs rather than only one, but I can't remember which one offhand. Someone else is sure to clue you in.

mc462, mcx370, alpha pal 8045 when available, millenium glaciator, thermal sk6, gw cak 38, etc etc

you are going to need one that grabs the other tabs or uses the holes. The Big ol Taisol Heatsink with a delta fan is effective and uses all three prongs on both sides(orbs don't and I don't know which side). The new alpha 8045 is better than the Taisol heatsink but is probably twice as much. It uses the four mounting holes. THe Swiftech 462A will be the best, but is twice as much as the alpha($80). I would look for the Alpha first, then if you can't afford it or can't find it, then get a taisol heatsink with a delta fan.
