As long as it disperses heat and can be attached, should be.

I don't understand the question.

As long as water can flow through it and you can put a fan on it, then yes, it's usable.

So is there any way of telling which heatercore is single our double pass? How can you tell by looking at them?

Just stay away from aluminium cores, like a lot of the tranny coolers.
