Can't view jpegs

On my friends pc all his jpegs show up as VBscript but still have the jpeg extension in the file name and VBscript files were generated for his MP3's. The files don't do anything when you click on them. Did he get a virus or is something else causing this?

Two things could have happened. 1) a virus. The I Love You virus went through systems and corrupted .jpgs and MP3's. 2) File associations.

My best guess is #1.

If it's files association, then right-click on it and go in properties, then change the "open with" application. I donno if it works for other versions of windows except windows me though

Its the same thing the virus did, that's a pretty old one though.

I thought it might be a virus but wasn't sure witch one. How can I remove this? I thought the I love you virus was an email virus?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think all new, recent virus scan programs (that cost $$, like norton or McAfee) now can distroy this virus off your comp. But like I said, I am not sure about this !

if he doen't have a virus scanner, d/l a trial version (PC-Cillin from Trend gives you 30 days of free updates with a trial version) and scan it...it should catch anything that's screwing with the system...


If it's not that, go check the file extension associations.
