is 1gb or 2gb better? i know more is better but would two 1gb sticks run faster than 2 512mb sticks? i new to ram timings ect. if i can get two 1gb sticks what speed? 3200/3500/3700/4000? thanks

I wouldnt get more then 1gb. Not many programs need more then 1gb... unless you are gonna use it for graphic design or game creation.
as to ram type... we need to know what cpu you are thinking of.

Smaller sticks of ram can usually run tighter timings.
If you have three ram slots, I would probably get 3x512MB for 1.5GB.
I currently have 1.25 GB and nothing comes close to touching it all, but I'm not playing the latest games... When I was playing farcry with only 1GB, settings maxed on my r9700pro, there were times when it seemed like a little more RAM might have helped a little maybe. The difference between 512MB and 1GB was HUGE though.
