I managed to get the OS onto my Raptor by having the SATA plug out until it asks for drivers in the setup (which I installed). I installed Windows onto a partition (C:) and then it rebooted (as it does) but the drive does not show in BIOS and halfway through booting it comes up with something like 'Windows cannot boot due to a hardware configuration problem' blah blah blah. I can see no settings in the BIOs to make the thing SATA enabled or such.

I have:
Abit AV8
WD Raptor
XP Pro.

Someone help. :)

Enable the sata chip in one of the bios menus - but can't remember which one.

just look through menus until you find it, make sure your MB auto detects it too

 I have made SATA the primary boot device. But it still does not show the drive anywhere and it is enabled. It is recognised by the chipset though.

have you tried updating bios?

Not understanding when you said you left the drive unplugged until it asked for drivers in setup. You have to have the drive plugged in at boot and be recognized by BIOS before windows can even see the drive to begin with.

Well When I had the hard disk plugged in fully It wouldn' tload up the OS setup from the CD, so I had to unplug it and then when it got into setup and it asked for drivers because it could not find a mass storage device I plugged in the hard drive, I then installed XP Pro into it after creating a partition. It finished and the rebooted as it is supposed to do but when it is booting it comes up with 'Windows could not boot due to a hardware configuration problem' or something like that.

Bugger.
