OK, will CS:S be like CS except on the Half-Life 2 engine? Cause i haven't cheked on anything about any video games since early june. Now that school has been in, and the days are getting shorter and the weather colder, it's time for me to get invested in a couple of indoor activites for the next 5 months, mainly video games and recreational basketball. Ok, so CS:S stands for Counter-Strike: Source correct? And this will be just like regular CS except for just on the HL2 engine? I mean it's alright if there are things different but CS:S will pretty much be a online FPS mod of HL2, right? Another question, CS:S will be free with the purchase of HL2, and like the regular CS, they're won't be any online subscription fees?

ok, i just looked at some screenshots of CS:S and i can honestly say that i can't see a whole helluva lot of diff. between it and 1.6.

game play wise its not that different. however, CSS is so much better when it comes to graphics and environment. things like being able to shoot open a computer in office and see the mobo/hdd/hs/f, and things like bullets creating water spray in aztec. also they changed things like how flashbangs work and interactive environment like moving barrels around and stuff. but most importantly they changed hitboxes to be more correct... i have friends that lag more around 150 ping in CSS than in 1.6(around 100 ping) but they have more registered bullets just because the engine is that much better.

what do u mean the hitbox has been changed around, like u mean there is now per pixel damage or just more hitboxes that are small? Like instead of there being a chest/torso hitbox, will shooting someone in the side have less damage than shooting someone in the upper chest ?

i enjoy shooting the watermelons into tiny pieces in italy.
office - has some comical paintings and look @ the desktops , very "dell'ish" if i must say.
aztec - running in the water, aw its great and when u shoot the water

Some people are saying that the hitboxes on a moving target aren't represented as they should be. I'm not sure what the exact issue is though.
The game looks great, especially things like particle effects do a lot for me. Like many games lately, it looks so much better in action, compared to screenshots.

buy it, download it, play it, love it. ;)
Screenies don't do CS:S justice.

i dont like the new hitboxes, when i actually aim for the head i get as many headshots as i do if i just spray. And the barrels are a pain in the ass all you can do is shoot them over but you cant jump over them or stand on them... They can trap you in corners and the only way to get out is to nade them away(its happened to me at least 3 times on aztec). I think that CSS has better graphics but i prefer CS 1.6 for the gameplay. I know you all say its basicly the same but thats just my oppinion.

I agree with devilscow22, I think the gameplay in 1.6 was much better. The graphics in Source are way better than in 1.6, but 1.6 was more fun because of its gameplay.

The chairs in cs_office can get damn annoying too. How many office chairs have you run into that actually don't move, and bounce you backward???

Other details I like include realistic blood spray as bullets rip through players. While spectating a teammate (I die quick) I watched him turn a corner and get lit up by about 3 bullets before he strafed back to safety. I could see the bloody bullet wounds in his arms and leg as he ran away.
Hell of a lot better than 1.6
