Hi there. I'm using an Audio Excel AV512 6 channel sound card, which uses the CMI-8738 chipset from C-Media. I've used this chipset before (it was integrated into my old m/b), and in worked wonderfully. With this new card, I get the occasional pop or crackling sound, especially when playing MW4. It rarely happens when I'm not playing the game. It's not a loud noise, but I would like to get rid of it. Upgrading to a new card is not an option (especiialy a Soundblaster, as I've got the Via KT-133A chipset). I can't find Audio Excel's web site, but I did install newer reference drivers form C-Media. They didn't fix the problem. All my settings seem to be ok. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Might be a faulty card try testing it in A known good computer (if you can) and see if it still does it if if it does then is is probebly a problem with the card.

Try moving it to an other pci slot, and see if this changes anything, might be some static interference caused by some other cards...
hope that helps

check the speakers on another sound card or cd player
check the cord that connects the speaker and the soundcard
there might be a problem somewhere there
hope this helps
My sisters comp is having the same problem. I think what is causing it is that she has a million things plugged into the wall in the same series of electrical outlets and she is getting feedback from it. So I guess that my advice to you is to check out what else is plugged into the same run of electrical outlets that you are on and try unplugging them.

You should double check all your sound connectors. Loose (and poor) connections are the main cause of crackling and popping in audio systems. The next is external interference. Stuff like flourescent starters, switches, mobile phones, all sorts of electrical motors can play hell with sound systems. Clear any stuff like that away from the computer. And don't overload sockets. Run an extension from another socket instead.
