I just got a very large a(and heavy!) thing from a surplus store. I don't know what it is/was, but it is rack mountable, has scsi in and out on the back. But, I took the thing apart and came up with 5 5-volt fans and a really great LCD screen.

What I need to know is: How do I step down the voltage coming from my fanbus from 12 to 5? I don't wanna re-wire my bus, so, what resistors can I use?

Also, I need links for LCD construction. The screen I pulled out is mounted on a PCB that has aconnector with 4 less pins than a floppy cable. Any ideas?

well for the resistor I believe you would calculate the same as if it is a LED so 12volt-5volt/current for exampel lets say .2 so 7/.2=35ohms seems kinda small. You might want to find some IC that is rated to do the voltage down to 5 so if the 12 volt raises it will still give a solid 5 to the fan.
