Ok, I'm going to try and replace the Thermaltake Mini Super-Orb that my computer shipped with, with a Thermalright SK-6. Mainly, because the orb was giving me idle temps of 45-50C, which isn't what I want w/o OC. So how exactly do I take off the orb? And what should I watch out for to make sure I don't screw up anything. And lastly, what do I do to prep the proc for my SK-6.

Thanks a bunch guys

The easiest way is to take a common Dremmel and just grind it off. Just remember to be VERY careful around the socket lugs, and vacuum your case out VERY well afterwards. The Orb isn't worth crap anyways. Have fun! :D

It might be one of those twist ones.

The Thermaltake Mini Super-Orb has a clip and can be taken off by unclipping it , unless Im missing something here. In any event take your time if your unfamiliar with removing or applying a new Heatsink. Possibly buy a AMD shim to avoid breaking your core

Once its off make sure you apply a thin coat of Thermal grease like Arctic Silver thermal paste

He wants to remove the Orb, not re-install it. For the sake of your CPU and your socket, cut the bloody thing off and cut your losses. I would keep the fan from the Orb, I hear there is a mod to put it on the Blorb. Good Luck!!
