View Full Version : I have come to the conclusion that Lucas Arts just doesn't care...

About their in game AI. What is the point in creating dark Jedi who can leap 30 feet in the air but will still fight me in a doorway?

How hard can it be to program an "avoid the doorway" subroutine? Really?

Haha, yeah I have to agree with you. Every Lucas Arts game I've ever played had Artificial Stupidity.

Either they are lazy, or they want their AIs to be easy to kill for n00bs

Maybe that's why they have dumped their dev team and are now outsourcing game development.

They stopped caring when they released Monkey Island 4: An Utter Travesty of a Game. But I saw it coming. When X-Wing vs Tie Fighter sucked, I knew the end was near.

It's Star Wars, you don't need AI when you have such a strong franchise that everyone will just gobble up.

The original X-Wing still is one of my all time favorites. After X-wing vs. Tie fighter it seemed like they wanted to see how fast they could lose a loyal fan base.

Good point, lets pray that Galactic Commando has good AI, since the game is built around it...

yeah i agree with you as well. Really fun games most of the time, but not very refined. Like in star wars battlefront, which just came out. usually the last enemy to kill in somewhere on the map walking into the walls of a corner, not going anywhere.

I don't care how big the franchise is. If Darth Vader had let Obi Wan back him into a doorway, the second and third movies would never have happened. This is Star Wars, not some poorly translated Kung-fu movie...

I hate all starwars games , i gave battlefront a go and uninstalled it immediately

Let's face it guys: George Lucas sold out a loooong time ago. All the movies and games of the past 2 decades have been created to line his pockets.

In all honesty, it doesn't surprise me much. I mean, Lucasarts sold out so long ago, it isn't even funny anymore.

Monkey 4 on the GRIMM engine was such a waste, it wasn't funny. They should've stuck w/ the SCUMM engine, and had a good game, rather than trying to wander around in a pseudo-3D world and managing to interact w/ everything but what you're trying to get to.

They also canceled Sam 'n' Max: Freelance Police. Hell, Georgie-boy can burn just for that, imo.

Does the world really NEED another Star Wars game? The answer, you'll find, is no.

Give me a break.

He's been in it all along just to tell the story. I'm willing to bet the only reason you say that is that you don't like the new trilogy.

Does anyone who watched the original trilogy liek the new trilogy? No its kiddied to hell and is dumb. Adding in slapstick humor should have never happened. Star wars has degraded from a really cool thing to a marketting scam

the original trilogy was kiddied to hell, too, for it's time.

the new movies are not my favorite, but according to george lucas its what he wants, same reson the dvds have special edition stuff in them, it was his vision.

I dont think the AI has gotten worse, were just still working with a Dark Forces 1 level of AI which is not up to todays standards

LA has its occasional bursts of creativity and then the teams behind them are crushed and destroyed in favor of mass producing quick buck crap. (Jedi Knight was a great game) People keep buying medicore titles as long as they have star wars stamped on them, so who can blame them for just giving us more crap?

Wanna see crappy AI? How about in Desert Combat when an Iraqi spawns into a tank from 50 ft. away?

TheGreySpectre

yeay gonna have to agree that desert combat has some of the worst AI, but Lucas Arts games usualy arnt much better. (in desert combat its funny watching the comps try to fly helicopters, or walking straight up to an enemy, standing in front of him and shotgunning him in the face at point blank range)
