After reading up on audio on this forum and other sources I decided to go with HKB6 speakers and a Onkyo HT-R410 Receiver; I spent about $200 in total. for it. After a month or two or using it I have come to a few conclusions: (not in any real order)

1. Stereo is so much better than mono (took me a while to set up the 2nd speaker)

2. Computer noise really annoys me and screws up my listening experience.

3. Remotes are amazing devices.

4. My speaker sounds pretty good but I definitely miss the lower frequencies produced by subs.

Here's my dilemma:
I don't really want to spend any more money on speakers, and I really miss frequencies below 80 Hz. Also, my computer noise is driving meINSANE, my questions is should I

A) attempt to silence my computer.
B) sell my stereo and buy isolating headphones
C) if A fails go to B

Another problem is that if I sell my stereo it will be at a significant loss, how do I minimize this loss?

Thanks,
-Jonathan.

Attempt to silence your computer. Unless you really like headphones. I personally hate headphones.

It is not hard to silence your PC. Roughly 30 bucks max if you do it right.

I'm going to test the system with a quieter source, if I like the results, then I'll attempt to silence my computer.

If you can limit yourself to two case fans (say 2 80mm's @2700rpm's) and a cpu fan that isnt crazy loud, you should be ok. If your a die hard overclocker forget about silence.

I don't have any case fans right now,
my cpu fan is really loud. I'm going to buy a new HSF and a couple of Vantec Stealth case fans.

Whatya running it with the side off? Listen,I have a 90mm Vantec stealth and it runs terribly slow on 12volts.
They're quiet for a reason.hehe.

I would go with silence the computer as well. If you aren't clocked very high go out and buy a bunch of quiet fans. I personally have a stereo and headphones. The headphones are very handy for fps for me. But I think that is just because I am used to them. To get as quiet as possible with fans check out these guys: http://www.silenx.com/productcart/pc/mainindex.asp

I silenced my computer for the exact same reasons you want to, jman999. Although mine is still too loud for my tastes, it is MUCH better than before. You may have to limit your overclock on your processor, but otherwise you should be able to do so without any significant performance degredations.

2. Computer noise really annoys me and screws up my listening experience.

I solved that, by cranking the sound.
