Here's a couple pics of my watercooled rig. Its still in the early phases.. but.. you can get an idea of where i'm going. I think I'm going to replace the case with an Antec.. but.. not sure yet. Mostly just testing out different ideas at this point.

Feel free to give input...

James

p.s. Try to ignore the glare and bad editing.

Look's very nice! What are you running in there?

That's one loverly piece of work! It must cool pretty damn well - like Walter said, what are you running in there, and have you had much success ocing it? :)

I was wondering what did u use to get the water to have blue color?

Very nice! I like the cut out you made of the case by the neon light stick so that both the case and air exchange down below are lit at the same time. Not practical for me, but how 'bout a 'night' pic?

Nice work. How's bout some specs on that system.

Heh.. forgot to post some specs.

AMD 1.4 TBird @ 1.645 (156x10.5)
256MB PC133 (CL2 @ 156) Can't remember brand.. from KDC
GF2 Ultra (Still testing my waterblock for this)

I don't have any real temps available. My mobo/proc sensors are pretty inaccurate from my non-scientific tests. Seems very susceptible to air movement inside the case. I shoud be able to break 1.7GHz once I get the VCore mod done. Right now it will post @ 1.69 but, isn't stable enough to go into windows above 1.67 (and shows instability there once inside WinXP).

Its a pretty efficient system, I believe. Also, its very portable (I look forward to taking it to a LAN party soon). Of course, the couplers are the key item that makes it possible...

James

p.s. Been thinking of building an entirely new one ... much smaller (different radiator/pump) and out of colored acrylic.

Also... the dye is blue flourescent dye from Caseetc. I just added WAY too much.. heh. I did try to get some 'at night' pics.. but, they didn't turn out well. The digital camera I was using either wasn't up to it or (more likely) I just don't know how to do it properly... heh.

Yep it is a real nice setup. Thanks for posting the pictures.

I thought I would show a pic of the couplers disconnected...

http://home.neb.rr.com/naelerosden/images/couplers.jpg

You probably can't see the miniscule amount of water on the coupler.. but.. I didn't clean them off after disconnecting. That's just how they disconnect.. no spillage.

Hmm.. let me try this again..

Some details of the watercooling setup..

BeCooling Jagged Edge Copper Waterblock
Copper block for Mobo
Copper block for Vid Card Proc (not pictured)
BeCooling Pressure Drop Cube Radiator
Danner Mag7 Pump
3/8" Hose and fittings throughout
Parker Non-Spill Stainless Steel Couplers
Fans:
--Panaflo 120mm H1A Intake (bottom of case.. drawing air through hole in bottom that matches hole in top of Lexan box... ultimately bring air through 120mm hole in front of Lexan box)
--(2) Panaflo 120mm M1A (one on each side of radiator.. front and back of Lexan box)

That provides most of the cooling.. there are a couple of 80mm fans and a 60mm fan in the case.. but, their combined CFM isn't enough to dislodge a gnat's fart. I'll probably just disconnect them.

Next up on the list is all the wiring that needs to be finished off. Eventually I'll probably add a Peltier or two.

Did you ever find out if anybody sells those quick-disconnect couplings in retail quantities? I looked around and couldn't find any myself.

My recommendation is to check www.parker.com and look for a dealer near your location. If you can find one.. I can help with part numbers, etc. If you can't find one.. then email me and I'll ask my managers if there's anyway we can help (ship direct or otherwise).

I don't know if they will do any direct business.. might upset the dealers. But.. maybe they could get a dealer to ship to you.. or whatever..

Great case ! I'm curious about what the little switch in the lower left end of the case is made for ? Good idea for the cable housing. What kind of tube is it ? Good luck for future o/c !

Naeleros

Actually.. all the wiring you see on the left is temporary. I have quite a bit of stuff going on there... but.. haven't had time to finish it up. The switch in this case is attached to the Cathode Tube in the bottom of the Lexan box.

I'll be making a more elegant solution to the electrical connection/disconnection of the two units soon.

is that the North bridge i'm looking at that you also seem to have a waterblock on or is that on-board video?

Holy Cow! Quick disconnects like a hydraulic setup on a tractor...Very Nice!!! I'm jealous! So do you have a list of reciepts for that puppy? Bet you've got a pretty good tally going!! :)

That's the northbridge on the Iwill KK266. I still haven't gotten around to attaching the waterblock for the GF2 Ultra. Probably do that this weekend...

Heh.. it has been hideously expensive. Mostly because I keep changing my mind after I already purchased something. Case in point : I'm going to be replacing all the fittings with pushlock style fittings soon... add $30-40 to total cost. Oh well.. that's what money was made for, right? heh

James

p.s. Also, cracking my original 1.0GHz AXIA didn't help much (had it at 1590 before I broke it :( ).

How much did you pay for those quick couplings? I found them for a couple of hundred dollars, and parker lists them for 400 dollars... ;(

Naeleros

Well.. I work at Parker Quick Coupling Division. I built the watercooler partially as a project to show them other markets for their products. Mostly as fun for me ;).

So.. I didn't have to pay for the couplers.. and I'll be running a couple of different couplers on it as a test. I know that the Stainless Steel ones that I use are HIDEOUSLY expensive. I'm sure you understand if you've ever tried to machine SS316.

We are working on some aluminum prototypes (designed originally for Kray Research). If the SS ones are not reasonable.. there should be other versions available in the next couple of months.

You have to understand.. these are general purpose couplers designed for high pressure situations (the ones I'm using now as well as the other pair I have here). They are built to higher tolerances than what would be required normally for this application. The problem is convincing them that there is a market for a more affordable version that would be intended for just this type of use.

OH MY GOD!
That is by far the most impressive watercooling setup i have seen yet! Absolutely beautiful work. :D

very impressive mr man. am designing a 3 pump system (with a very good sized reservoir) where i've got one pump dedicated to the CPU, one to the AGP/Video, and one to the Northbridge, Southbridge, and mobo mosfets. never saw anyone else watercool the NB before but always figured it would be a good idea, especially with my Kt7A (which comes actively cooled anyways).

curiously, how did you attach the waterblock? i hear lots of different techniques from folks who've never watercooled things like their NB before...

very well done job. very classy. my hats off to you.

Currently, the NB waterblock is attached with the original pegs that came off of my NB heatsink. I plan on replacing them with nylon bolts/springs as soon as I find some ;).

There would be a lot of options with an external box like this. Along with your idea for 3 pumps.. there is probably room for 3 radiators in this box if everything was placed properly. It might be too crowded to bother making it out of Lexan (all you would see is edge to edge radiators and pumps) but... could be very effective. Just some stuff to think about as you begin to plan out your watercooler...

James

p.s. Just make sure that you check your height of box + case carefully.. heh. I didn't check mine and it slides under my desk with some rubbing on the top blowhole grill. That was soo close.. almost didn't fit.. heh.

actually i'm in the process of building a small, very powerful freezer that will cool a 4 gallon water/alcohol/waterwetter coolant to around -30F or so... theres going to be ALOT of measuring believe you me!
