I got a sk6 thermal right and when i take it off , there is no identation of the core, with the thermal grease.Ive already blown one processer and almost blew another. I put it on two ways and i have rearrange the clip and no luck. DO I have to have a shim to use this sucker? Is there another heatsink thats easier to put on , instead of the thermalright? Please inform me
You must have a bad retention clip. I've got the SK-6 and mine makes perfect contact with the core. Have you tried bending the clip to give it more pressure? Also make sure the edge of the heatsink is not getting hung up on the end of the socket. I've read off that happening. Make sure it's level, not on an angle.
This is why I hate retention clips. Get yerself a Swiftech MC462A. It cools better then the SK6 and it is easier to put on... since it just screws straight into your motherboard. :)
Here is the information you need:

Thanks for the info Nevin, that is the problem.I think im going with a different heatsink for sure. But i think i can get the sk6 to work but with the diagram you gave me nevin it looks like ill have to take the motherboard out, and thats too much trouble.
