View Full Version : What PSU do i need?
I'm getting a AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4GHz "AYHJA" 266MHz FSB and a Epox EP-8K7A+ with 512mb crucial PC2100 DDR RAM, What would be the recommended wattage for the PSU?
It will also have the Voodoo 5 5500 64mb AGP graphics card and SoundBlaster Live!
Also I'm after a quiet but good Heatsink and fan for the 1.4 any ideas?
Cheers for the help:D

i would recommend a brand name 450walt +
enermax, anatech and some others are good
also for a quiet heatsink u should be good with a glaciator
Cheers mate,
I had a look at an Antec sx840 with a 400w PSU would that be enough? and does paying for a brand name PSU help with overclocking? or are they all pretty much the same?
I'm running a 431w Enermax. I'm happy with it. I'm also running an SK-6 with an 80mm fan on it. It's very quite.

i have got 300watt and i've blow it up:D by changing from the 1.85 v t0 1.95, i now have a new powersupply but it's still 300 watt, cause i have got no choice, my vendor refuse to give me a 400 watt :D which is understandable.
my temp now is 43.7 idle with just slightly o/c to 1.33 from 1.2, i've drop it down cause i don't want to blow it again^^

Why don't you buy another PSU, so you have 2 of them? That way you won't blow any of them, and you can overclock! :)
The Antec 840 is an excellent choice, both as a case and a PSU. A good "One-Two" punch.
Hoot
Cheers guys
One last questions will the 400w PSU be enough to power my processor and graphics card etc...
I'd go with an Antec PSU. I hear that Enermax PSUs and the Epox 8K7A have some compatibility problems related to the 5v power line.
A 400 watt should be plenty. I've got a 300 watt Antec PSU in my system and its running great. See my specs in my sig.

To save you some money i would run dual PS they would walk the dog over any single one also that is what i am gonna do to save me some money i am just gonna pick me up another 300 watter. 300 watt PS are cheaper then the 400s and up. you can check it out here >>>>
