i have lower my o/c speed and the voltage due to the PWS, i am running 1.33*10 at the moment with default voltage. but no matter what i do it will never shutdown, unless i press restart. would you guys call this satble? and is there anyway to solve this, because it's pretty unhealthy i have to say.
another question, i had my comp taken out and left it on my bed, then some how it round and hit the floor, and since then, my temp has gone flying, just wondering what's causing this, any suggestions? any way to solve this?
too much question isn't it :D

Stability can be adversely impacted by temperature. If I were you, I would remove the HSF, clean the baseplate and the CPU core, apply a quality thermal compound and remount it. Make sure one of the clip retention lugs on the CPU socket didn't break loose or off in the fall. The failure to shutdown properly may be due to an OS problem. If you can not get that problem resolved, consider reinstalling the OS.

The restart issue is a known problem with some BIOS versions on the 8K7A. What BIOS version are you running? I'm running 1711 and don't have the problem. You might want to try flashing to the latest BIOS level.

I dunno about the temp problem but the shutdown problem i know whats causing it. WinBLOWSME and WinBLOWSSE got a nice bug that when ur cpu is to fast it shudowns to quickly, before it has closed rest of the programs, devices running so it might crash, blue screen or just wont respond.

On my 1.4@1544 there is just a FEW times it will shutdown correctly. This is a known problem and is in bugware m$ database.

I think the fix is too turn of fast shudown but i haven tried it yet, neither do i remember how.

Switch to a better os like win2k

The shutdown issue periodically pops up on my computer every now and then.... usually it'll go away for at least a little while after I reformat and reinstall. I know there's an issue with NVidia video cards and shutdown on WinME, with some driver versions. Those should all be fixed in the 12.xx series of drivers, though.

This is not the first i hear or experience what you are talking about. Last night i hit 1518 on my 1200 and it once again corupted my files and i had to re-install all my software after a clean format. It wouldent evel let me just install the OS alone.

I find that if you load your OS with a fast chip slowing it down has no consequences, but reving it up corupts the registry and some system files. I think that the CPU might not function as intended even though it passes all the tests and boots OK. I tried to install the OS at 1466, and it hung, at 1400 it hung, and only at 1333 it worked fine. One true test of stability i supose. Any way i decided to give the whole thing a rest for a while as my board is king in every way but for the VCore over volts. Thats the only thing i cant manipulate through switches or the bios past the 1.85~1.92 limit.

I hear motorola can get a 70Gig CPU working fine soon as they use different compunds in the chip. Headline news in the IT section in yesterdays paper.

So what is 2Gig worht then?
