I have a DELL Dimension XPS T600 with a PIII 600 Katmai. i was wondering if it's possible for it to be overclocked via modifications?

No, that chip is running as fast as it can go already.

Sorry for the bad news.

OEM computers like dell do not have the options on the motheboards to overclock. If you want to overlock that chip, you will have to buy a new motherboard.

You maybe able to get a few more MHZ out of it with a program called softFSB(if your motherboard is supported). But to do this you will have to know what kind of motherboard you have or your clock generator.

To find out what motherboard you have open your case and look for some white lettering. it shoudl be fairly large (if any) printed on the motherboard. Post what you find and we will see if you can be helped anymore

According to SiSoft Sandra 2001, the clock generator is:
Generic PLL-IC-WO and is software programmable. What clock generator do I select from the SoftFSB pull down?

the katami core wont let you go any faster. 600 is about the max. dont even try to go faster because its a waste of time.

generic doesnt help to much... you need to know the exact model if you are going to change anything... you could always look for it on your motherboard.

It will be near the north bridge(often) by a silver cap(always) and i think that cap will say 14.something
the clock generator is a small black chip about 1/2 cm, wide and 1 1/2 cm long. Will most likly be made by ICS, REALTEK, IC-WORKS or WINBOND.

Almost every chip will do (even more so for intel) an extra 10%-20%. This is how intel covers thier behinds and ensure a chip will run at the speed it is sold as.

Even if you can get the FSB for that chip to turbo (103) thats still something. It should still be able to get 112FSB. I agree that you will not get much, but you will still get some love from that chip.

I was just about to write that :)

Some may consider this flaming (attacking the person...not the message). Perhaps you could edit your post and remove the first line?

Just hate seeing people get in trouble for showing their passion.

Ok...i found the RAMDAC chip...it right right where you said it would be...above the northbridge. The chip has a logo on it which is 2 small lins with an ' i ' in the middlke and the lines had a circle around them. The chips labeling was: W194H
B714 1951KA
Any clues as to what I should select in SoftFSB? I'm going to try to get it to 660 (110x6) if i can.

yo man i got friends with PIII same as you...and there craped out at 600mhz...450mhz can get to 600 550 can get to 604mhz but tahts about it....sicne iwth pIII if its the same as PII ur multplier is part locked.....u cant go up but u can go down...u might wana try 4.5x133 100-133 is quite a speed up but dont expct too much more if your lucky u could try 5....and see if u can get 633mhz to run with maby more voltage...but tahts the end of that cpu capilbities...to get more ur going to need a coppermine..sorry for the bad news but hopefully u can get some more speed out the components with extra 33mhz fsb

Sometimes I'd ignore me, but the last 7 posts were rather unnecessary.

The coppermines were developed because the Katmai core failed to go higher than 600-ish.

Sure, another mhz or two wouldn't hurt, but really... 6-24mhz? Is it really worth the bother?
