View Full Version : I need help! My First Overclock! My p3 450mhz to ???mhz PLZ!!!
Guys!
im on a p3 450mhz, slot 1 (SC242 Connector), 100 x 4.5 = 450.
i want to overclock it guys. i;ve seen on some sites that the p3 450 can run faster with less cooling, can i just put off the cpu's case and put on the electric fan?
btw, i got an Abit VA6, supports 66 to 150mhz. with cpu soft menu 2, i want to overclock my p3 guys! what will i do? and plz tell me the ones to be increased.
thanks! hope someone will mind to post a reply on me, i've never received a reply before since i registered here las t year
:( so plz help me now guys :)
jobo
I have the VA6 in my webserver, crappy mothboard but will overclock.
You need to increased the bus speed (in the sfotmenu options set to user defined). Watch the temps on the chip. Anything over 45C with that chip will be too hot.
increase the bus speed, add .5 Volts if needed (no more than 1.90V)... watch the temps.
Be sure to check out the tips on the homepage.

I'm pretty sure those chips run at 2.0V stock. I could be wrong of course.
Isn't that one of the older Katmai chips? Those usually top out at around 600mhz with good cooling, as I recall.
I'd try ripping the case off it and applying a good cooler to the chip- don't forget to cool your cache RAM chips as well, those can hold back an overclock.

You could be right. Come to think of it, those cores did require a bit of voltage :). My bad.
bad Pinky, bad bad mouse!

Just increase the FSB, boot in Windows, do some tests to see if it is stable, if it is, shut down, increase a little more, boot again, and etc. etc. etc.
And if it isn't stable, increase the voltage a little, no more than 0.5v at a time
thanks guys... im gonna test it now..
if it wont boot? what should i do?
thanks guys!!
now i run at 558mhz @ 124mhz bus speed... i can't believe what i've done! ahehehe, this is another achievement for a 14-year old boy like me! ahehehe, i want to know if i can still speed it up a little bit, my temperature only goes at ranges 28-30 C. plz help me reach 600mhz :)

Good news.
Not sure you'll reach 133 bus, but I'd say try it.
What are your voltages now? If your default is 2.0V, I would not go higher than 2.30V
Your temperatures look good.
guys!!!
i now run at 600mhz @ 133mhz bus speed!!! running very smooth and fine! with temps raging 28-31 c now. but my voltage is 2.0.. should i still rise it a bit?
thanks!

Hi jobo,
the voltage of the Cpu must be increased to satisfy the bigger request of energy of your chip OCed, but if your system is Rock Stable isn't needed. Check the stability with prgs that stress your system like folding@home, 3DMark2001, Prime 95 or your favourite game.
I hope it helps ;)
guys..
i run at voltage of 2.0, i did not changed that, i think that's the default, should i raise it a bit? plz tell me, thanks.
jobo
ps... how can i put a pic here in the forum?

Jobo,
if your system is stable, not freeze or lock-up, doesn't need of a Voltage increase.
About the Pic's attachment, well, take a look into the Post reply screen up to the 'Submit Reply' button, there's a section called 'Attach file', press on the browse button and select a Pic from your folders ;)

nice o/c jobo =]
i'm still new here
and is ee everyone speed is like for 450 mhz 100X4 and stuff
only 100Xomething
but i've got PIII 667 and it's 133X5 or something...
should i changed it too 100Xsomething?
=/
Cheers

i'm quite afraid about your specs, but i think if your motherboard supports manual clocking like mine, and supports bus speeds higher than 133mhz, then you can overclock it. you can clock it up to 150mhz! aheheh, just a joke about that 150mhz bus ok? just wait for their replies.
by the way, thanks for the tip guys.

You won't need to 'underclock' your chip. You could take your chip higher, to say 150mhz bus speed, but cooling and other factors come into play.
let us know when you're ready to try some things. I also suggest reading the tips and how-tos on our homepage. This will get you pointed in the right direction and define some of the concepts we discuss here.

cheers!
