I just can't figure this one out, maybie someone else can. I just upgraded my monitor today from a samtron 55v 15" to a NEC multisync A700+ 17", the problem is that the samtron looks nicer than the new one. I don't understand this, the samtron is a cheap display, and from what I understand the Multisync display's are verry nice, mine is verry dull I have tried to play with the brightness and contrast, but no luck. Any help is welcome.
P.S I wasn't sure where to post this one, there isn't a forum for monitors, so if this is in the wrong place please let me know and/or move it to an approprate(?) forum.
This seems like as good a place for your post as the others, mind you I'm not in charge of anything. As for your problem maybe your just used to the specifics of your old monitor. It took me a while to get used to my 17" when I first got it but now when I look at my 14" Daytek (crap) on my backup machine it looks horrible in comparison to the 17". Just what bothers you about the new display?

The brights arn't as bright and the darks arn't as dark. I hope that made since. the hole display seem's to be duller, I used adobe gamma correction on the 15" to set the different values, unfourtinatly(?) I left my adobe 6.0 CD on the floor and I rolled over it with my chair on accedent oops I hate it when I do stupid things like that.

Two ideas, perhaps not good ones though.
1) Can you change the settings on the monitor by adjusting then physically? You know, fine tune the dials and switches.
2) Switch from your regular detergent to new Ultra Tide! (told you it wasn't a good idea)

Only controll I have is for brightness and contrast, and of course all the little ones to make your screen go in funny directions. I like idea #2 I think I'll try that and see if it works, if not I will wash this monitor with tide, bet that will get some kind of result.(A verry realistic lightning effect lol)

Firstly, your contrast should be at 100%, but more importantly what video card are you using ?
I have an Asus GeForce 2 and in the advanced properties of the display properties panel there are controls for color and gamma correction, maybe your card offers these options.
"edit"
Your monitor should have settings for color temperature, try changing those, it should even have a custom color temp set-up.

I am using a hurcules 3d prophet II MX 400, and I have one more controle under the RGB tab on the monitor for 9300K 7500K and R, G, B. is this the controle you were talking about, it is set to 9300K right now, I have tried changing it, but the problem only get's worse.

I find that 6500K is the best color setting. 9300 is too "blue" in color, and "5500" is too red. Put your contrast to 100%, and adjust the brightness to your liking (But leave contrast at 100%).
If that doesn't fix it for you, then chances are you've got a dud monitor. Return it for a new one (Assuming you didn't cover every single little bit of it's case with beer, gaming, and R/C car stickers, like mine. =P )
When I upgraded from my Pixie craptastic 15" monitor to my KDS AV-7Ti 17" Trinitron monitor, my eyes fell out. Yes, they fell out, and rolled around my desk until my wobbling, spasmatic hands finally found them and put them back in. KDS's are cheap, and PHENOMINAL quality. If your situation doesn't work out, get a KDS! You will NOT be dissapointed!
